| Have you priced it through your vet, or are you just going by the invoice when they gave it to him? The prices for them to administer it will be alot higher than the prices they sell it to you for home administration (or should be).

They should sell you the supplies for much cheaper. It cost me about $12 for everything. The prices online seemed comparable. Some sites require a script before selling. Then you may need to go to 2 or 3 sites to get everything (fluids, needles, drip set). Also, if you go this way and the site doesn't require a script, you'll need to know what kind the vet wants you to use (Normosol R is common).

| My Brody had kidney failure, we got the supplies from the vet, it cost 12.00 for the line extra needles and bag, and did it at home twice a day. The vet first showed us how to on Brody it did take two of us though. I wished I knew of the support group smepperson mentioned. I would check that site out. I agree it was not easy. Wishing you peace and healing for Tyler.

K9KIDNEYS : for owners of dogs with Kidney Disease Dogaware is also a great site with a lot of info in one place... DogAware.com Health: Kidney Disease in Dogs The fluids are quite expensive to order on line because of the weight. It's best to get them locally. You can get them at a lot of pharmacies. I've heard Costco is good and you don't have to be a member there to use the pharmacy. Sometimes it's best to go in rather than talk to a person on the phone. It's good to have the NDC numbers with you, they are identifier numbers for manufactured products..... National Drug Code - IV Solutions A case usually runs anywhere from $25 up to $40. I just get mine at the vet. He charges the $40, but Jack is so small a case last about 7 months. My vet charges $5 for one line, which is outrageous. I get my lines from Thriving Pets and/or Med Vet for $1-2 each I also get my needles there, it's way cheaper and I don't need a prescription for those items. You do need a prescription for the fluids. Administration Sets at Med-Vet International Kidney / Renal Disease - Thriving Pets I highly suggest that you do some reading at the above links. I've had two different vets treating Jack and all they suggested was prescription food, which was horrible, and drugs to address medical issues. By going to the above links I found there is so much more you can do to help treat this condition. Supplements are just one of the suggestions along with phosphorous binders (when needed) are so helpful. I hope this is of some help......I wish you all and Tyler all the best.....

| Sub Q fluids Hi I know how you feel went through that with my girl too. She lived 1 year and 8 months on daily sub q's it helped her to live a normal happy life except for her last 2 weeks. Just wanted to give you some information about getting more affordable supplies. You can order your supplies through drs foster and smith online with free shipping on pharmacy items. Lactate Ringers are 4.99 a bag, subq lines are 3.49 and the needles are also inexpensive. I believe you only need a prescript for the line and needles. Their website is www.drsfostersmith.com. you can also call them. Just print out the form and bring it to your vet, they will fill out and fax it for you. Also if you go to VCA Animal Hospital there are several listed in Florida I can almost guarantee they will match the price. I know VCA in Massachusetts did it for me but I didn't know until I brought the form in for them to fill out. Believe me I know how costly it is to buying these daily supplies from your vet. I hope this helps! Wishing you and your baby all the best.
