| So Worried! Hi everyone! I have a boy yorkie name Bear who is almost 6 years old. For a couple of months now, I have noticed that he is more gassy than usual, and his stomach rumbles alot. And when it does that, he will not eat anything. Not sure if he is in some pain or just nauseous. Anyways a couple weeks ago he starting vomiting blood and had blood in his stool. I took him to the vet and they diagnosed him with pancreatitis. They thought it was from feeding him people food, but I do not! They put him on some medication, and changed his food to PURINA E/N really low fat food. He has been on this ever since, but he's still not well. I took him back to the vet this past Monday and they put him on Predisone. But he still has the diarrhea, the rumbling tummy, and doesn't want to eat!! He may feel good one day, and then the next he is sick again. My question is...How long does it take them to recover from pancreatitis? What would you suggest that I feed him? Does it sound like maybe there is something more going on with him? I am so tempted to find a new vet!! Thanks for all your help!!! |

| I am sorry about your little Bear. I don't have anything to offer for help except that if you are unsure, or still have questions, or a gut feeling something is not right, absolutely find another vet for a second opinion. You will never be sorry for settling your mind over the issue. I hope he gets well soon.

I hope you are able to find out what is wrong with Bear and he feels better soon. Sending prayers and best wishes. I would use the search function on YT and type in Pancreatitis. I have seen many threads about Yorkies with this condition and what the owners have done to help the dog. I would go for a second opinion. It would not hurt to have someone else look and offer suggestions since poor Bear is still having problems.

| It can take awhile. Did the vet rerun blood work to see if there was still an active case going on? Yes, there could also be more going on.

| It can take ahwile. I noticed that you said he was eating the EN is it the canned??? The reasom I ask, is becuase they changed the formula and I know alot of dog's have been having a problem with it. See if you can change the Hill's ID. What kind of medicine is he taking. I know my Molly had to have the Carafate and Pepcid as well as Metronidazole. She had chronic pancreatitis and IBD and Cushings, plus she was also ERD as well. Talk about a juggle with the meds. I hope your baby is feeling better soon.

| I would probably speak with my vet about her thoughts on going to an Internal Med Specialist. Pancreatitis can last some time. Another thing: food is not always the reason....they really do not always know the reason for pancreatitis.

| Is prednisone normally given for pancreatitis? Hmm, I wonder if the vet is thinking IBD? Bear's symptoms sound just like the symptoms my dog with IBD was having. Her's is due to a food allergy and she was prescribed prednisone too. I'd see an internist, if he keeps having problems.
