| Rescue! (Don't waste time!) Well 2 weeks ago we rescued a 7 week old pup (Emilie). She was 1.2lbs. When we got her, she was blind, deaf and having constant siezures! Her owner's dog had 2 pups. They also have a little 5 year old girl who is ADD, OCD and CDD (Compulsive Destructive disorder!) We heard this pup screaming and crying in the background while we were on the phone with the owner. Apparently the pup had been acting up for 4 days! We told the woman to get the pup to the vet ASAP when she finally admitted the dog was having seizures and that the little girl had dropped/hit her on severeal occasions. The short story was we have the dog now. Our vet was wonderfull. Emilie was given something to reduce the swelling in the brain, and potassium bromide to stop the seizures. We made sure she was getting food and water. We gave her all the love and patience we could manage. Overnight her gums "pinked" up. Within 2 days she no longer screamed when she was picked up or touched. Within 4 days her vision has returned, not perfect but pretty good. It has been 2 weeks now. Emilie still cant hear but she can see, play and takes comfort from my touch. I just got back from the Vet. and she was so pleased with the progress we have made with her. We still have to get her antiseizure meds down in level and are now tapering her down to a maintenance level. We still have a ways to go but there is hope. If only her previous owner had taken her to the vet sooner. Emilie is a beautifull little girl and though we were not looking for a 3rd dog we will not be giving her up. As long as we can get her anti seizure meds down to maintenance levels she will be fine. If we cant get her off of the overdose levels she is on right now she will have a short life. But it looks good. The advice I want to give to ANYONE who thinks their dog is having a neurological problem. Dropped, fallen, hit or what ever...Get to the VET! Get to the VET! Get to the Vet! If Emilie had been seen on day one she would have prob made a complete recovery! By reducing the swelling in her brain she can see again. Her hearing may come back but personally I will be amazed if it does. It is amazing what can be done! It was not expensive so dont let that be a concern! Time is not your friend! |

| This story has me sobbing, just thinking what that little tiny baby went through, I just don't understand how people can have pets, watch them suffer and not do anything! Thank God you got her, you saved her life. She so deserves the love she will now have from you. Bless you! You are a wonderful person!

| Thank God you saved that baby. I couldn't hardly stand to read that story. A friend of mine was given a yound dog with the same thing happened. A small child dropped it as a pup and he was deaf as a result from that. So sad people with small children allow them to pick up these dogs, or even be around them unsupervised. |

| Could not agree more with vetting first and foremost. Just the thought of leaving a dog screaming or suffering quietly while one goes on about one's business makes me physically ill. And people wait days and days sometimes before deciding on taking their dog to the vet. Thank goodness this baby is in good hands with someone that loves her and is willing to get her immediate proper care!!! Thank you for the thread.

| You are a terrific person. I would much rather see a bad person suffer than any little dog. Thanks for doing what you did, and you are 100% correct about getting to the Vet as fast as you can. |

| I'm in tears reading this. My heart breaks for what this little one went through, and for what the adult dog may still be living with. Bless you for taking this little one in giving her the care she needs. What happened to the other puppy in the litter?

| I hope so, too. But it isn't right that she has to live in fear.

| I know this may not be my place to say, but did you go to the police about this? These "people" have these dogs in a very dangerous and abusive situation and when the worst happens, are not even humane enough to get medical care for the seriously injured animal. In my opinion this is animal torture. They should never, ever be allowed near animals. Please call your local authorities, and get them copies of the vet records. If not for your dog, for the next batch these monsters produce. |

| Bless your giant heart! I'm so glad Emilie's lucky stars aligned and now she's with someone who can properly love and care for her. I'm absolutely disgusted with people who treat animals like disposable toy's. My Roxy wasn't abused (thank god) but she was kept in her kennel for 90% of the day, now shes with me and I work from home so the only time she's ever in the kennel is when we're on our way to the vet or the groomer.

| Thank you for rescuing this pup. It hurts so much to read of these poor dogs suffering with people who should never, ever have a pet! I know your Emilie will have a wonderful, loving home with you. |

| Bless you, bless you, bless you, for taking this baby in and helping her. Maybe her hearing will be restored too. I can't believe someone with small children will allow their child to abuse an animal. I know dropping them can be an accident, yes, but I'm sorry I guess I am so over protective of mine that I would not allow a small child to hold them. |
