| Anyone Experienced with Metronidazole? Both Pete and Dakota are on 10 days of Metronidazole (Flagyl) and a strict chicken and rice diet for bacteria protoza (possibly Giardia). The first stool sample was clean. After 5 days, they only poo once every other day and it's still yellow and soft. The vet says it's ok if thy don't go longer than 48 hours. Otherwise, everything else is normal. The vet said the medication does not cause constipation but both dogs have always gone twice daily. |

| Sammy was on that last summer when he had a bout of diarrhea. Then he didn't poop for 2 days and I got scared and called the vet and they said that after having diarrhea and eating a bland diet it was OK that he didn't go for a few days. I thought maybe it was from the Rx. But then on the third day he went and everything was back to normal. Good luck with your pups!! |

| I have never had a pup have constipation while on Metronidazole. You are going to see changes if they had issues before...and they are now on a different diet and also meds. I am sure they will be back to normal soon.

Donating YT 30K Club Member | I use it for mine when needed and it usually stops the diarrhea and sometimes they won't poop for a day.

| Neither have I. However, I would never be without it in my doggie meds.

| Great Med!...All 3 of mine have been on it (one time for each pup, and 3 different ailments) and it got the job done each time... |

Donating YT 4000 Club Member | Let me start by saying that what you are describing is not constipation, but rather a decrease in the frequency of the stools. Constipation is characterized by hard, difficult to pass bowel movements. Rice is considered a "low residue" food, meaning that it decreases stool volume and frequency while prolonging transit time through the intestines. That's why it's such a help to a dog with diarrhea. Metrondiazole doesn't have constipation listed as a side effect, but it can cause some mild GI upset and decreased appetite, which would also lead to a decrease in the frequency and amount of the stool.
