| Vitamin C? I was given tablets from my Vet to give Shade, who had a sore throat because he choked on his food, to give him once a day every day for a week or so. My mom had first given it to Shade so I didn't know what the bottle looked like. In the morning, I wanted to give him the next vitamin but my mom put it on the shelf where we keep all the pills. So I looked at one that looked like Shade's and gave him one, a 1000 Mg tablet. Then I saw that it was Vitamin C and started freaking out. I looked it up and it said that it wasn't going to hurt him but he'd pee it out. But my mom thinks that it'll kill him. Will it? |

| I would call the vet and ask them. I hope your little guy is OK. |

| Yes, you should call the vet. I am just curious. What is the name of the pill that your vet said to give him?

| Vitamin C is water soluble. Excess will be excreted in the urine. There is a little bit of concern that overdose (probably continuous) can cause problems. Call the vet if you would be more comfortable. He may get diarrhea, but he isn't going to die. Depending on how cautious your vet is, they may want to do bloodwork or have you induce vomiting.

| There are some old studies that point to a possibility of liver, kidney, and skeletal problems. This would have been over a period of time though, not just one dose. And these studies have been thrown out in a way. However, it was a massive dose for a Yorkie puppy and it would be best to talk to your vet.

| No, a one time overdose of vitamin c is not going to kill a dog. But the vet may want to run blood work to make sure everything is okay. You can call and ask. Don't necessarily need to take him in.

| I would still like to know what the vet prescribed for a "sore throat".

| I'll tell you when I get home, I'm currently in school and I've forgotten the name The doctor thinks that he has tonsillitis but, as he said, he couldn't get a good feel on his throat because Shade is always very squirmy. That's why he gave us the pills. Do you think that the pills were unnecessary? |

| Ohhhh! My suggestion to you is this: Do what nurses are trained to do. Read the label on the bottle three times! Make sure that you never again give him something that is not his! We all do those things from time to time....we need to be super cautious with these little ones. A simple mistake can be deadly. Thankfully, yours was not!

| Everyone makes mistakes! It is correcting what led to the mistake that is important. You are not stupid!
