| Reaction from Teeth Cleaning Hi everyone....So this morning Bella went to the vet to get her teeth cleaned. I do the non-anesthesia cleaning bc I do not like to put her under. I dropped her off this morning around 8am and everything was fine. Then I picked her up around 11:30am. It had been about 4 hours since she went out, but I was in such a rush to get home that I did not take her out at the vet. I waited 30 minutes till we got home to take her for a walk. She was crying the whole way home but I thought it was bc she thought there were treats in the bag the vet gave me with her papers. She seemed fine when we went on a walk. Then I fed her and she seemed happy and I went back to school. My sister got home around 1pm and said that Bella would not stop doing this soft cry. Then I got home around 4:30pm and she started to cry even more- it almost sounded like she couldn't breathe which really scared me. She was shaking which was also scary and this along with the crying went on for about 30 minutes and then she threw up twice (yellow with a little bit of white stuff that like like chicken fat). I went back to the vet bc I was so concerned and he looked at her and said everything was fine. She seemed very playful in the vet wanting to see the other dogs and got really excited like usual (I almost felt silly for a minute for bringing her back bc she seemed so normal). I asked him to check her stomach bc it felt like there was liquid in it to me and he said her stomach was fine, and her temp was fine and everything else. He gave her an anti-nausea shot (which made her scream/cry like I have never heard before in my life). Even the vet tech said she had not heard a dog cry like that from the shot in forever. The vet said maybe she was traumatized from the teeth cleaning (but she has had her teeth cleaned by these people before and everything was fine). Then he said maybe she digested some of the teeth cleaning stuff and that the white stuff in her vomit may have been mucus. Now we are back home and she has started the non-stop crying again. It is not full blown crying, it is very soft crying. She is laying next to me with her eyes closed (she seems to be sleeping) but she is still making those noises. She is doing that soft cry thing non-stop. I just do not know what is going on and I am very worried..... Has anyone else ever had an experience like this????

| It is heartbreaking when our babies aren't well. I hope this is just a reaction that will go away soon. Sending hugs to Bella. Feel better soon!! |

| Thank you so much for responding! I am so stressed about this. The noises she is making will not stop. It sounds like she is having trouble breathing!!! Like she is breathing very very loudly and it almost sounds like there is mucus or something wet in her nose that is also making a sound! But at the same time it is like she is doing this soft cry. I just do not understand! She seems to be sleeping next to me but these noises are not stopping. I just do not understand! I am so worried....I am trying to stay calm for her but this all makes no sense at all. It seems like she is in pain or is having a hard time breathing and it breaks my heart that I do not know what to do or what is wrong!

| My first two thoughts would be what the vet said (possible ingestion of something that is upsetting her stomach or trauma). Could also be pain if she jerked at they cut something. Just a few reasons why a lot of vets won't do these without anesthesia... Are her gums pink and wet?

| I just tried to look at her gums...they seem pretty pink but not very wet at all. Her nose is wet though (I do not know if that means anything). ....

Donating YT 11K Club Member | It could be they hurt her gums by accident and the pain is making her cry. If she keeps on I would take her back to the vet or another vet. Hope she gets better!

| she went from somewhat playful to completely lethargic...she hardly even moved when my friend just got here. Do you think it is the shot they gave her? She is totally lethargic now! I am soo nervous....she is still doing the breathing thing.....i have read that this can lead to death and I just do not know what is wrong.....

| Occasionally there can be a slip up and a vaccine given that wasn't approved by the owner (the chart wasn't read thoroughly or something). It almost sounds like they had to have given some type of drug/vaccine and something was ingested wrong. Vet still open? If the vet didn't give a vaccine, the techs will have to be asked about it... If something was given and it's a reaction, then something like benadryl may be recommended by your vet.

| Could the lethargic-ness be caused by the nausea medicine/shot they gave her????

| Do you have any nutrical/nutristat or kayro syrup you can give her? I would be worried about her sugar levels since she is lethargic and has thrown up. If you press on her gums...not super hard or anything like that...just until it turns white...take off your finger and it should turn pink right away. I am a worrier so I think I would take her for a check up somewhere else like an er.

| I do have nutrical....I am just not sure how old it is. I haven't had to use it in years I feel, so it may have gone bad. I will try and check on that. Thanks! She is sleeping on me...still breathing very fast and heavy and still very lethargic (won't hardly move)....I am giving her water through a syringe to keep her hydrated...... I am so upset by this.....

| The Veterinary Use of Maropitant Citrate (Cerenia) in Pets This is likley the drug used. It can cause lethargy and that can indicate toxicity. It may be best to call the ER and find out if the vet thinks she needs to be seen.
