| Need some Advice ASAP!! Multiple episodes of diarrhea My yorkie has had several episodes of diarrhea in the last 4-5 hrs. The only changes that I can contribute to this is that she is in the middle of changing foods and I introduced wet food a couple of weeks ago. She has been having looser stools lately (in the last week or so) which I thought was due to the wet food but yesterday I fed her 1/2 a cup of wet food and my bf didn't ask and fed her another 1/2 cup of wet food 8 hrs later. She is only given 1/2 a cup of wet food once a day but yesterday she ate twice as much. Could that be what is causing her to have loose stools? We are already thinking she needs to go to the vet but I want to know what might be causing it, what I should do in the mean time, and if I shouldn't have her eating too much today. I already know that I need to keep her hydrated so we are encouraging her to drink water. We thought maybe it was some sort of inflammation or a bug that would pass and she is acting like her usual self. In fact, she seems to be perfectly fine and doesn't seem affected at all despite her symptoms. |

| loose stools Hi..............Boops mom here. Yorkies are notorious for have irritable bowel.I am not a vet...............so please tell your vet what is going on. I can say with 20+ years of having and loving this breed that they do get GI problems...........I suggest you withold your baby's food for 24 hours.then, give her boiled skinless chicken breast with rice..........then gradually get your baby back on schedule...these little guys can dehydrate fast....so let her belly get 24 hrs rest........nothing goes in.....nothing comes out.........believe me I know...lol..........................hope everything goes ok..............................Boops mom |

| Add canned pumpkin for the diarrhea; then rice and boiled chicken.

Donating YT 500 Club Member | This exact thing happened with taycie 2 weeks ago. I like you was switching her food and I thought her stomach issues were from me switching her food. Fortunately I got nervous and took her in..the vet truly believed it was her stomach upset and gave me some meds for the diaherra. I did do a stool analysis as well to rule out anything else. The next day my vet called me with results that she had hookworm! I was shocked! I was soooooo glad I took her in. You could always drop a stool sample off just to be safe it is not something else! |

When symptoms continue that prompt a question on the internet, most of the time a vet should be consulted. Better safe than sorry. People can give advice on what to do about symptoms, but that does nothing to stop the cause.

YT 500 Club Member | I would give her some boiled (or baked) skinless, boneless chicken breasts shredded into some white rice. Otherwise, your dog may eat just the chicken but avoid the rice. Add a little water or chicken broth to the mix to make the rice easy to eat. My dogs don't like rice that is sticky/starchy, hence the water. Definitely bring her to the vet if you are concerned and/or if the upset bowel continues. I definitely would not withhold food for any amount of time with my dogs, but they are both ~5 lbs. Also, if you find that she starts throwing up yellow, foamy bile, it means she has nothing in her stomach and needs to eat. I have found that diarrhea is often followed by throwing up bile.

| Update: I took her to the vet today and my vet thinks that it was the change in food that set her digestive system off. They checked her stools for parasites and she didn't have anything. She is on antibiotics for 5 days and hopefully she'll be feeling better in a few days. Vet visits can get to be so expensive but I feel better knowing that it was nothing serious. Thanks for all the advice and well wishes! |

My vet also told me to put her on a bland diet for 3 days and reintroduce her normal food back into her diet slowly after the 3 days of the bland diet just like you suggested. She is only 4 lbs so I didn't feel like keeping her off food was a good idea even though it was causing her symptoms.

Thank you!! My vet said if she was really sick, she wouldn't have as active as she was in the office. Another one of the important things she pointed out was that Ellie didn't have any abdominal tenderness or guarding so that's why she concluded it was nothing. She hasn't pooed yet today so I'm nervous about what it may look like. I never thought I would be so concerned about a dog's stools.
