| I'm worried I'm scared. This isn't about Tila or Odie. This can be moved, if it needs to be. My cat Simba has hyperthyroidism, we found out two years ago and he's been on medication since then, he goes in about every four months to check his T4 levels and they usually run tests to check his kidney and liver function. In about the last month he's lost some more weight, he's been drooling a lot. He still eats, but has been having a little trouble with the dry, he prefers wet and drinks a lot of water which the vet said would be normal increased thirst. I checked his mouth tonight because he was drooling and his mouth looked a little discolored. His spit is like slimy. When we went in for the first time and found out he had hyperthyroidism we went over what would be the best course of action and decided that surgery and radioactive iodine treatment were out, we went the route of medication every day. We talked about teeth cleaning, but the vet did not think it was a good idea because she did not think that he could handle the anaesthesia, because of his health and age. Simba is 15, not that old. I'm just worried about him, I'm taking him in tomorrow for testing and a check over, so they can check his mouth. I'm just worried about what can be done, if he needs something done with his teeth, the vet didn't want to put him under...I'm just worried. Simba has been a part of my life for so long, it's hard to see him go through things and I know pets don't live forever, it's hard to imagine what it would be like without them around. I'm hoping for the best and will find out tomorrow what's happening. |

| I'll be keeping good thoughts for Simba. I would say try not to worry too much, but that is easier said than done. Just keep hoping for the best.

| I'm sorry you are having such worries about your precious Simba! I'll say a prayer him and I sure hope that your visit to the vet is nothing but good results and can set your mind at ease. Hugs to you!

| Keeping Simba in my prayers.... I don't want to shock you but 15 is getting up there in years for a kitty. Give him a big hug from me... another geriatric kitty owner too!

| I'm sorry to hear about Simba. I, too, had a 17 year old cat with hyperthyroidism. I know exactly what you are going through. My cat had exactly the same symptoms as yours. I was able to get her help and she lived about 4 more years. I'll PM you.

| Well we went to the vet today and got Simba checked over. He has ulcers in his mouth. Which is making him drool more than normal. He has lost two pounds from his last visit. He's on antibiotics for two weeks. If he gets worse this weekend, he has to go back for testing for his kidneys and liver. If he doesn't heal well and is still having problems, he will be going back in for x-rays. The vet didn't want to alarm me, but she said there is the possibilty that it is cancer in his bottom jaw. He is on recovery wet food right now, he has to watch what he eats because of his hyperthyroidism, but at this point they just want him to eat anything he can. I'm not sure what to think, we're just going to keep going right now and see how he does on his antibiotics. Thank you everyone. |
