| 16 week puppy ate a pill... Fynnlie may or may not have eaten a 40mg Nexium. We're not sure. What do I do? Any advice? Please?

| Give him Hydrogen Peroxide till he throws up the pill. About 1/2 - 1 tsp at a time every 15 minutes. Call poison control or (people or animal) ER vet to verify these instructions... the h2o2 won't hurt... not sure if it interacts with the pill. or a 24 hr pharmacy....

| As it is slow release, there's a good chance making him vomit will bring it up... I would do that as the side effects can be severe... even if you're not sure he took it... or get him to an ER for bloodwork.... would do that anyway unless the cap comes out whole.... he may have chewed it... How is he acting?

| Have you tried to make him vomit? ... if not def put a call in to your vet... it is metabolized by the liver and in a young pup this could not be a good thing to let happen... better to make him puke and not find a pill or find it later on the floor than to let this go through his system.... been reading product info on their website....

| As kjc said, this isn't something you can just wait out. Dogs don't always show symptoms with this type of thing until it starts affecting their liver and/or kidneys. I imagine this dose was meant for an adult human, so it could be extremely toxic. That said, I've never looked into the toxicty of this drug in dogs. A call to the vet should be made immediately.

| I called a vet this morning while I was talking to kjc here. He said that this medicine should not have any effects on Fynnlie, except make him have diarrhea and possibly make him vomit. I have people checking in on him all day long at hour intervals so he should be fine... I hope. We still don't know if he ate the Nexium or not. He was acting perfectly fine when I left him this morning, running around, chasing the cats, eating. He pooped and he peepeed. He chewed his Bully Stick, played with his toys, nibbled on my fingers... He' was acting the same as he does every morning. Naturally, I'm worried about him and will take him to the vet tonight when I get home. Thanks so much for your responses. I'll post an update as soon as I have one!

I called my vet this morning when they opened and talked to the Vet Tech - who's the Vet's wife - and she said just monitor him. If he starts to get bad diarrhea then bring him in and they'll give him a flush. Ugh. I need to get some new Hydrogen Peroxide and keep it on hand if this is going to be a regular occurance with him. Little twerp... *sigh* Love him but... Really...? Eating pills?

| Oh, they will eat pills! Be very careful with them. I have gotten into the habit of taking them out of the bottle over the kitchen sink so that if I drop them they don't roll onto the floor. Some pills can be deadly!! Ibuprofen (Motrin) is one of them! Hope your little one is ok!
