| Acting strange Hi everyone. My yorkie, Frederick, is acting strange and I'm trying to figure out what's wrong with him. On Friday, I noticed that he was blowing air pretty strongly out of his nose and would then gag like he was going to vomit, but nothing ever came up. So I took him to the vet, and they didn't seem to think anything was wrong (of course he wouldn't do it anymore once at the vet). Then Sat and today he is walking kinda funny and not eating and drinking as much. He wants attention, but then when you pet him, he walks away and hides. He is normally very active, but not yesterday or today. I haven't noticed the gagging happening as much, but there's clearly something going on. Anyone have any ideas?? Thanks in advance for the help!!! |

| I would have thought collapsed trachea until you mentioned he was walking funny, but I don't know what could be wrong. I hope it's nothing serious and that Frederick is okay.

| I would take him to your vet and have his blood taken, CBC. Dont wait, this could be dangerous! Good Luck and keep us updated. |

| I knew something was wrong with my Lucy when she was hiding and did not want to interact with us. Luckily, my vet did too; because when I told him that - he immediately said that was not normal puppy behavior. We found out that she has mild MVD and changed her diet accordingly. Hope you can find out what is wrong. I second the recommendation for a Vet visit.

| Maybe try to video any strange behaviors you are witnessing... it may help to give your vet a better idea of what you're seeing... and bloodwork and a Bile Acids Test may be a good idea.

| unusual behavior I have 9 yorkies, and they often do what is called a "reverse sneeze". They will start to breathe rather loudly, and make somewhat of a "honking" noise. It is very scary to see them do this, for it seems like they are in a lot of distress. But I have been told by a couple of vets that this is what is happening. But after they are over their reverse sneeze episode, they usually act normal. Since your yorkie is still acting strange, I would definitely let the vet know that something is not right. They will probably recommend blood work, and possibly an xray. |
