| Sick baby My baby Max started throwing up about two weeks ago. Then stopped eating. Talked to my vet n she suggested a bland diet the whole boiled rice n chicken deal. I then noticed he started to bloat badly. I called my vet n she got him in but upon viewing the x rays she noticed his whole gut area was full of fluid. She drained him and told me she thinks he might have PLE? Extremely low protein. She wants me to take in a urine sample tomorrow. My baby is so lethargic and just is not himself. I am currently feeding him small amounts of turkey and trying to coax him to drink water. My hubby got him to eat some eggs this am. And I am giving him all his meds the vet gave me for him. I am desperate for any advice. She gave me a paper explaining PLE briefly but he is only 3 n 1/2 yrs old.she said our goal is to get him to last the week. I cannot imagine losing my angel especially when he should have so many yrs ahead of him. I am so sad. I am feeding him small amounts every hour or so and mush it so to help him hold it down. I am hoping the throwing up stops soon. How do I help him?????? |

It is so very hard when your loved one is sick. What has the vet said about the throwing up? Anything you can give to settle his tummy?

| If you vets really suspects PLE I would have him contact Cornell as they are doing a study right now on PLE in Yorkies. I was asked to participate by supplying bood sames of all my dogs. I have never had any PLE but they are doing a broad based pedigree study of lines affected and those not. Along with the samples they requested a ped and vet records on my dogs. I am always more then glad to participate in ANY study that will help our breed get stronger and healthier. They told me it was important to participate even though my dogs have NEVER had any PLE. I guess they are studing as many pedigrees as possible. Maybe they can hlep with your little one Sparklingbluyorkies.com |

| Thanks! I didn't do the syringe cause I didn't want to upset him more but I did put water on my fingers n he licked it off. Then he actually got a small sip of water on his own. |

| I am so sorry to hear your baby isn't well. PLE is very serious, but your baby can live a full, long life with the proper care. If your vet doesn't specialize in small breeds and PLE, please look for someone else as the type of care & meds your baby receives can make all the difference in the world. I have first-hand knowledge of this as my Sissy was dianosed with this two years ago. Today, she is pretty darn health and a happy yorkie!!!! I would strongly suggest a more holistic approach with treatment as this is what seems to make a huge difference very quickly and lasts. I consuted with Susan Davis and Dr. Gordon via a phone consultation through the Arroyo Animal Hospital in Southern California. Since my involvement with them, they have helped another very seriously ill yorkie recover from PLE as well. Here is their information...... Pet Health Pet Nutritionist Holistic Pet Please feel free to PM me with any questions. My Sissy's diet consists of The Honest Kitchen Keen for breakfast with The Honest Kitchen Preference with steamed Talapia for dinner. She gets several supplements daily; a probiotic, Lypozyme, BioLiv, Vitamineral Green, and Nupro Silver and she gets a once monthly B12 injection (in the beginning the B12 was weekly).

| Sometimes ice cubes are enticing. And most dogs love the taste of yogurt and this is also okay in small amount - low-fat without Aspartame. Vanilla is usually a good flavor to go with.....

| Thanks to everone for your advice. Quick update he is now holding down food n water. But it is still iffy at this point because of the bloating. The vet put him on steroids to try n help n gave me a really good diet for him but I just don't know at this point what is going to happen. |
