| Scared. Please respond. My 10 year old male yorkie has had bladder stones in the past. He is on medication for this and the most recent test (about 4 weeks ago) showed some crystals. Vet said it was not bad enough to treat. Earlier today I saw something that appeared to be drops of blood on the floor. It was hard to tell if it was blood or something else. I immediately became concerned that he was bleeding. I checked him and could not find any blood on or around his penis. I took him outside and caught some urine in a cup and it seemed to be clear. If he does have blood in his urine would I be able to see it? Thanks for your help |

| Small amounts of blood in the urine may not be visible, when they do a urinalysis they test by dipping in a urine stick that has a chemical reaction and color change with small amounts of blood. Hope he is o.k.

| Do you think I need to get him to the animal ER? Or should I wait to see if anything else shows up and make a decision on Monday? Thanks |

| I have fostered two males with bladder stones. I think you're ok to wait until Monday as long as your dog is urinating a normal stream and does not appear to be straining to urinate. However, please call your Vet to confirm what they would like you to do and update us here, too.

| If you think it looked like blood , it probably was and a UTI is nothing to mess around with. I would have him seen by a vet ASAP. Often when they have had stones they will get them again and can be prone to UTI's. Do you have him on prescription food ? |

| What kind of bladder stones did your baby previously have? What type of crystals were noted on the last UA? What medication was he on for the past 4 weeks?

| thanks Thanks to everyone for the replies. I took a urine sample into the vet today; no stones, no crystals and no blood. I guess I over reacted. Don't know what I found, but apparantly it was not blood. But, I have been under a great deal of stress. I lost my husband three months ago to lung cancer. We got the diagnoisis on March 23 and I lost him on April 24. He was the love of my life. So, everything is very scary now. He was only 56 years old, and I am 50 with no family in town. We were both over protective of our puppy angel, but now I am even more so. He has been such a great deal of comfort during this time. Thanks again |

| I am so very sorry for the loss of your husband. No wonder you are overprotective towards your little one. I hope your yorkie gives you some comfort. Not having family near can be very difficult for you. This forum is a wonderful place to visit if you feel lonely or worried. Hope your baby will be fine x
