| Radiation Therapy for Mast Cell Tumor My 11 1/2 year old Yorkie Sasha will begin radiation therapy on Monday for a mast cell tumor on her front ankle. She had surgery on the tumor (which is Grade 2) but it was not completely excised and "dirty margins" (meaning cancer cells are still present) remain. So we've been told that she will have an 85% chance of complete cure if we followup with radiation. So here we go with radiation. It will be 15 to 18 sessions (one per day) administered Monday through Friday for the next 3 to 3.5 weeks. Has anyone out there experienced this process with their dog? I'm a bit frightened as I don't know what to expect and how she will react during the days ahead. I do know that she will be sedated for each session, her ankle might eventually burn and ooze, and she'll lose the hair at the radiated site but it should eventually grow back white fur in color. Any feedback, suggestions, or comments on own experiences (and prayers, too! ) will be GREATLY appreciated! |

| I have no experience with radiation on a dog, just with people. But I want to say I am sorry you and Sasha have to go thru this and my thoughts and prayers go out to you.

| Thank you for your message Patti - we appreciate your concern! Leslynn & Sasha P.S. I saw you are from Illinois. I spent many years of my childhood growing up in Glen Ellyn and my Mom still lives out your way in Barrington. |
