| Baby "Depressed" Won't Eat Hi all. My daughter's chihuahua has a litter of puppies - almost 7 weeks old. We have one little girl who was "off" a little on Sunday evening - so I cooked up some beef liver and we started on that... also feeding A/D with syringe and supplementing with NutriDrops. She's been separated from siblings and on a heating pad. She gained some - perked up, ate a bit of boiled chicken yesterday on her own and was still drinking/urinating well. Today, she is worse; she awoke with one eye matted shut (infection)? We took her to the vet: diagnosis = ?? Did analysis on blood, a little anemic (but within range for her age group). No parvo (she had been throwing up some on Monday- and wanted to rule that out). No internal parasites. Temp is lower than normal.... She is "depressed". He gave her fluids (subQ) and sent us home with antibiotics and some meds for her stomach (said he was hearing no sounds). I asked about acid bile test and he said not indicated. She is restless and whining, can't get comfortable. I just don't know what else to do. Parents are both healthy and have been tested. This is the third litter from these two and noone has had any issues. I think "depressed" is the right word for how this started... she didn't want to eat food and lose Momma. BUT, now I'm afraid b/c she is so apathetic. Any suggestions? (She weighed 14.3 oz last week at 6 weeks of age. Today she weighed 12 oz at vet) |
