| Missing hair on top of my yorkie head HI. I just found a small spot missing hair on my Yorkie's head. It looks like a semi-round scar. I felt so sorry for her because after reading some posts some where else, I realized I may have been making her top knots too tight. I thought I wasn't. Anyway, I changed the position of the top, I now make two knots and I make sure the spot is completely under one of them and the hair is not pulling. I mean the scar was exactly at the end where the hair was picked up. Couple of questions, what does this mean? will the hair keep falling out? Should I stop making the top knots once for all? Will it ever grow back again? The skin does not look red, irritated or anything but if feels tender. But her skin per se is tender (I mean soft skin), I don't think it is irritated just that it has a round line with no hair. Can some one advise me what is the best step to take and how to allow the hair grow back if indeed will grow? With your experience, have you seen hair grow back again? |

| I have heard of dogs getting a bald spot because of the hair being pulled tight. I would imagine it that is what happened, it should grow back. I would guess that if a dogs hair is anything like a humans, the only way for it to have been permanent damage is if the actual hair folicle/root had been destroyed...usually that takes severe trauma or exposure to electical current. (Like electrolysis.) You may want to watch for signs of dry flaky skin--it could be ringworm or another skin parasite/virus. (We had a dog with ringworm once.) Or, even though I've never heard of it happening on the head, it may be something called a 'hot-spot.' (Had a dog with this too...nasty spray medicine, smells like burned bacon.) Keep me (us) posted! |

| Thanks BamaFan121s, I read in another forum that when circulation stops to that area due to knots too tight the hair won't grow anymore. But I could had swore I was doing it right.. Now I am paying dupper supper extra attention to it when I do it. I give my Yorkie those ringworm pills (once a month).. so i don't' think is that. However, I will take her to the Vet just to make sure... and I don't see any flaky skin anywhere. I'll sure keep you posted. Any other advice someone? thanks! |

| Raiza, If you look for it, a while ago, like 1-2 months, I had the SAME problem with Max. He had a big nickle size bold spot on top of his head!!! I was alarmed when I found that cause my parents were watching him for me over the week and I think my mom tied his hair kind of hard and it must have been itch for him. I cut his hair all around his head and neck, so the spot does not look so noticeable from his long hair. Then I gave it about 2 weeks. After about then (like 2-3 wks) I notice that hairs were starting to grow back, I felt SO lucky and I THANK GOD he was gonna be alright. Now it's been about 2 months or so. All grew back, but still very short. Other hair grew back on his face too so just past weekend, I gave him another cut around his face and eyes. I think (and many will say no, but think it's true) some yorkies have more tender and softer skin than others and we have to be very careful about tieing their hair. I am really scared to tie his hair again, even though he is so so cute when his hair is tied. I don't think i am going to tie his hair for a good while, maybe for like a year or so. His head skin is pink and tender and I don't want to cause any harm. that's my opinion. I just want him to be painfree and happy. Cheers!

| thanks Maximus: Looks like your baby has gone through the same thing. I found out about it on October the 8, but it didn't look like it had just happened. It has been 3 weeks already since I found out. but I don't see hair coming out. I will keep checking tho and I will keep you all posted. It does not show tho, she has so much hair around it that no one can tell, but if it keeps falling out, then will be cutting it off. Yea, I am concerned about keeping making the knot.. I will kind of lay off of it for a while. There are some small pressure pins you can put that won't pull or brake the hair. This is just to keep the hair away from her eyes. Of course they don't look as cute when you use the knot. Anyway, thanks a lot for the advice. I will continue checking to see if the hair grows back. I am very very concerned about it. -r Quote:

| Hi Barkatme, yes i am doing that as well. But most of the time now, she is not using anything to give her hair a brake. So She looks like a punk. Yesterday I noticed a bigger spot on top of her head, looks now like a coin. She has so much hair that I hadn't noticed.. they both must have happened at the same time... however, it kind of feels baby hair is growing back.. but not too sure. Hard to see, but i can feel it when i touch it with my finger. I will come back to let you know what happened. All I know is that I am now supper dupper careful while I brush my little angel's head.. and watch it very closely to make sure this does not hapen again. Quote:
