| Yorkie has cherry eye, won't eat, very weak & trembling! My yorkie recently got cherry eye, and I called her vet and they said they wouldn't be able to take her till Saturday morning on the 26th. Yesterday she was fine up until the time that my parents came home. We haven't seen her eat anything, and she usually lays in the living room and plays with my dad or something and last night she just laid on her bed in my room and slept. She was trembling last night so I put her sweater on her and I put a blanket over her too while she slept. This morning her eye was swollen shut and it looked like red & white pus had came out of her eye. My mom, being a nurse for 30+ years, thinks that her bloodsugar might be low because she was shaking and we haven't seen her eat in a while. So we gave her some warm sugar water and she seemed to like it and she seems like she's feeling a little better now. We also cleaned her eye with a warm cotton ball. But every time she tries to eat, she starts whining when she tries to chew. She's lost all of her baby teeth except for the front 2 on the upper part of her mouth. I don't know if that could be causing her to have pain while she eats...? Does anyone have any ideas on what could be wrong... or what I can do until the vet can see her. If she does seem to get worse, I'll probably just take her out to the vet's office and hopefully she would do something..if not then I guess I'll be taking her to another vet or the Animal Hospital that's about 45 minutes away..I just can't stand to see her sick |

| I would definitely recommend getting her to another vet...infections can spread fast. I would also try to tempt her to eat with some bites of boiled chicken breast or even treats of some kind...baby food meats or anything that will give her protien and hold her sugar levels. NutriCal, corn syrup and things like that are good in emergencies but you really should try to get her to eat something solid. I would definitaly start looking for another vet though or even call your vet again and tell her how things have progressed and see if she can get her in sooner. YT Graphic Artist Donating Member | My Sapphire has cherry eye. It is something she was born with - but she has never had any problems with it, so I tend to think that is not related to the symptoms your dog is showing. Cherry eye is only an inverted eyelid - not an infection. If there is pus and it is swollen shut - that is most likely something else. I would take her to another vet if yours cannot see her. It sounds like she may need some antibiotic ointment or someting for an infection. Perhaps she got some dirt or something in her eye that caused this?

| dIf you are saying that there is pus coming from your pups eye then I highly doubt that the problem is cherry eye. It could be pink eye though or some other kind of infection, with the information you are giving about her crying when she tries to eat and that fact that she is going so long between meals I would strongly suggest calling your vet back and telling them about this. If indeed it is pain from an infection it is nothing to fool around with and needs to be cared for ASAP. If your vet still says that he won't see her until the 26th then find another vet, infection in nothing to play around with.

| Agree with the others, she needs to be seen by a vet as soon as possible. If your vet refuses, find another vet! This sounds like some type of infection and she is likely in a lot of pain, which may explain why she is not eating as well.

| Lady had cherry eye when I adopted her. I had it fixed when she had her first teeth cleaning. Cherry eye itself does not cause the symptoms you are describing as it is only the third eyelid protruding. She could have pawed at it and ulcerated her eye or have an eye infection, though. Cherry Eye in Dogs She needs to be seen by a vet asap. Shaking and not eating is a sign of pain. |

| I took her to the vet today and she immediately took her in. It's just the girls that work there that are careless, the vet is wonderful. Anyway, Trixie had an infection from a scratch on her eye. I'm thinking my collie scratched her the other day. She also had a fever. She gave us some antibiotic eye drops to give to her. She's already feeling somewhat better. She ate some of her food when we got back from the vet. Now she's taking a nap =) |

| I'm glad I did too. The doctor immediately came up to me and told all of the other patients that she had to look at Trixie first. She said that she was scratched on her 3rd eyelid, which is better than being scratched on her cornea because that could've blinded her. I think her and the collie were just playing and he hit her with her paw, because I heard her yelp the other day and I checked her and she seemed fine. She's sleeping like a baby now. I'm so thankful that she's going to be ok. |

| So glad to hear you got her in... glad its not too serious and that she is already on the mend! Give her kisses from us. I used to use a vet like that... the vets were good but the staff was horrible and would always say that there were no appointments!
