| PLEASE HELP. . . .Biting feet, legs, and scratching terribly Mocha, my 10 month old puppy recently began new behavior, biting his feet. He actually puts his whole foot in his mouth! I feel horrible because I can't figure out what it could be that is causing him to scratch and itch so badly. Is this an allergy? Could it be a medical condition? I'm stumped. . . Any help, advice or suggestion would appreciated. |

| Sure sounds like an allergy. Have you recently changed food? Has he gotten into anything new outside?

| I feed Mocha Wellness. I don't believe he's gotten into anything while outside, I watch him like a hawk when we're out there. |

| Which Wellness do you feed? Some dogs are allergic to wheat, corn, or soy. Some even are allergic to chicken.

| He is eating Wellness for Small Breed. Please correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't all Wellness products free of Corn, Wheat, and Soy? I just recently learned that dogs can be allergic to Chicken. The treats he gets are 100% chicken breast, but he's eaten those for awhile and has never acted like this. Would turkey cause an allergic reaction? Turkey the first ingredient in Wellness for Small Breed. |

| My boy was doing this yesterday and I had to take him to the vet and get an allergy shot. Look at your dogs skin and make sure there aren't welts all over. My poor baby was miserable.

| You might want to consider covering his paws to prevent major skin irritations, like Mojo said. Maybe small socks with a tie around the ankle.

| He didn't have the welts from scratching, he had them from the allergy - but that is a good point, you don't want your dog to cut himself or something.

| Oh, that's just awful. Lots of dogs that have allergies lick and bite their paws until they bleed

| I agree it sounds like allergies. I would definitely say that this requires a trip to the vet. Until you can get to the vet, for immediate relief I would recommend a bath. Following the bath use a chamomile tea bag, wet it in warm water and just lay it on the spot(s) for a few minutes a couple of times a day. Chamomile sooths the skin and tea draws out infection.

| I think it would be like hives in a human; they were head to toe so I rushed him to the vet as I was freaked out. They gave him an allergy shot and antibiotics.

She also got hives 17 days in on an antibiotic called simplicef so they can get it from an accumulation of an antibiotic in their system Sounds like allergies. rinse the paws any time he comes in. You can get a tupperware container that is flat and put water in it and dip all 4 paws when you bring him in from outside and dry them off. Any time dd starts licking her paws like that we take her to the sink and rinse the paws. here is a lot of information i wrote on allergies as I have been dealing with this for 5 1/2 years http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/yor...y-what-do.html Last edited by dwerten; 06-20-2010 at 07:47 PM. | |
