| I think that I read a dog's ear will have a foul odor if there is an infection. Try to smell your baby's ears. Maybe you should go to the vet in the morning to be on the safe side. Hope he feels better soon.

| If your baby is shaking his head and or scratches his ears accompanied by not acting like himself he may have an ear infection. Sometimes the ears become red and inflamed and develop an offensive odor. A black or yellowish discharge commonly occurs as well if there is an ear infection. I hope this helps. If you have any of these sign a trip to the vet is in order as ear infections are very painful.

i see ear infections all the time and they usually smell horrible. plus the ear is red and irritated. They also can have some sort of discharge in them. I usually see nasty black goo, but it can be yellow and slimy too. i wouldn't put any more animax in. you should take him to the vet so he can do a swab of the ear. also don't clean it before you go. the medication and ear cleaner will ruin the sample the vet takes

| ABove are the symptoms, but if your pup is lethargy and has no appetite, then he needs to see the vet. It would have to be one miserable ear infection to cause those symptoms. Or there may be more than one thing going on. IF the area around the ears is painful to the touch, I'd wonder about a dental issue.

| The weird part is he does not have any bad odor what so ever. I did put some of the medicine i had in last night and this morning he seems happier. If it continues i will deff take him in to the vet. I love this little guy so much it kills me to see him not happy. |

| Maddie had an inner ear infection and had no smell from her ear. She did however, hold her head a little to the side at times and acted like she was off balance when waking. It was weird, she did not act like herself at all. I really think you should take her to the vet to be on the safe side. Ears, like eyes, are something I would not want to mess around with. Better safe than sorry. |

Our Kellie knows and really offers good advice. And they can have an infection without the odor. Tink has those occassionally. With her I can tell because she starts scratching her throat area instead of her ear and she is anxious about everything. I agree that you may want to consider taking your furbaby to the vet. These infections can become very nasty. Last edited by Tink's Mom; 06-09-2010 at 08:30 PM.

| My puppy scratches his ears at least a few times a day and whimpers..but he does not show any signs of lethargy or loss of appetite. I'm not sure if he has an ear infection or what?

| You will need to take him to your vet. Bentley just had a yeast infection in his ears and had to be put on ear drops. It is hurtful to them having to scratch all the time. Hope someone else will see your post and give their opinion. I would definitely be taking him to your vet.

I would have a vet check it out. My Lexi had an ear infection and would scratch a lot. Her ears also smelled pretty bad. With an ear infection you will not see lethargy or loss of appetite, but ear infections are very uncomfortable for these pups. I feel bad for not recognizing the signs earlier for Lexi. I say the sooner the better to get this checked. We also received ear drops. Lexi hated them, but they helped her feel better, and we haven't had an issue since.
