| When Addie was wearing a splint, the vet said to use a hairdryer, which you've done. Sorry, have no other suggestions. If you use the hairdryer again, be sure not to just hold it in one spot, you can burn him.

Phantom Queen Morrigan Donating Member | honestly you should NOT have given him a bath. I used to be a surgical vet tech for an orthopedic surgeon and that was a major rule. a plastic bag isn't going to be enough protection because you can't exactly tell the dog to hold his arm out of the tub while he takes a bath. Another rule, if the splint gets wet or damaged you need to take him in to get it redone. moisture can build up inside the padding of the splint creating a dark, warm, and moist environment which is a perfect breeding ground for bacteria. also if he is active in his splint the motion causes the splint to rub against the leg making a sore. so now you have a wet splint and a sore, and usually that spells infection.

Phantom Queen Morrigan Donating Member | also i just read that you are keeping a sock over it all the time. that isn't a good idea either. the sock makes the splint too warm, which causes moisture, which in turn causes bacteria/infections. the splint needs to be able to breath so please only cover it when its potty time. get a water bottle for him to drink out of so he doesn't step in his dish either. I see you are letting him play around too. i know he is a puppy and its hard to keep him confined but you really need to do this if you want everything to heal properly. i've seen what can happen to a leg when the dog is too active. those with splints on that didn't need surgery in the beginning sometimes end up needing it after a few weeks because the bones aren't healing right. Or the splint rubs against the leg so much it causes pressure sores which then get infected and the skin starts to slough off. its not pretty and you don't want to have to spend even more money on something that could have been prevented.

| he does play, like run all around the house chasing things. no i might sit on the floor and do very little play....and he runs away i go pick him up. yeh the sock thing, welll its just tape over a spint. nothing else. like i mean white tape to stick gauze onto you, id say if anything that would get hot. im suppose to keep his splint clean, how do you keep tape clean?? and yes, he did need a bath, long story, but he had to have a bath |
