Need Help with Riley! Symptoms started Thursday which included: Loss of appetite, not wanting to drink, walking real slow and kinda off balance, no energy, yelps when we pick him up like his side areas hurt. He usually loves to be held but now hides from us. I did take him to the vet and bloodwork was done showing a little off in calicum and a few other things. The vet gave us some vitamins becuase he thought he was not eating enough. I honestly do not think this is the problem can anyone input some information I would greatly appreciate it.

can you state what was off on blood work and how old your pup is? If you are doubting vet you may want to go to an internal medicine specialist Let us know all highs and lows on blood work and we can try to help you out What food are you feeding? Did they do any bile acid testing for liver? Does your dog act different after eating? was calcium low? was amylase or lipase high? He is hiding as he is in pain Last edited by dwerten; 05-23-2010 at 06:02 AM.

Need help with Riley His calcium was 8.3 should be 8.6, his phosphurus was 2.8 should be 2.9, his K+ was 3.5 should be 3.7, and his TP was 5.2 should be 5.4. All other was normal including BUN which was 13 should be between 7-25. He is a little over a year. These symptoms all of a sudden started and was eating fine before now. I have him on Purina. I have 2 other dogs who eat the same food and are fine. Now I can't get him to eat or drink at all but yesterday he did a little.

yelping in pain concerns me and the walking off balance. Did he have vaccines recently like within last two months? I would not mess with this if dog is in pain and get him to a specialty hospital where there is an internal medicine specialist and neurologist. The blood work is not really way off so this could be neurological and dogs do not yelp in pain unless they are in alot of pain. I think this is out of the hands of a normal vet and your dog needs to see a specialist to figure what is going on. They will need to rule out liver issue along with neurological issue. Please do not wait go as soon as you can as your dog is in pain and if it is something neurological like in the spine then the sooner your dog is treated the better. I think you have a vet school near you so maybe check there as may be cheaper my gut is this can be neurological related as liver disease dogs do not yelp in pain and your dog is not vomitting or having diarrhea so do not think digestive issues. I just think a specialty hospital or vet school has a team of doctors to figure out quickly what is going on so that is what i would do if it was my dog. This is not something to take a wait and see approach in my opinion when a dog is in pain. Last edited by dwerten; 05-23-2010 at 07:52 AM.
