| Second Opinion at Vets Not Good Mylee nipped at me last night when I barely touched her leg, so I scheduled a visit to the vet. Two months ago she was diagnosed with hip displasia. He confirmed the hip displasia, but the real problem is a blown out knee. A tear was probably what I first noticed causing her pain (not the hip), and now she has fully blown it out. She is scheduled for surgery Friday morning. I have no creative idea how to make her stay down and relax post op. Saturday I put her in an ex pen while we had company and she climbed out. It just gets worse and worse with this baby. I feel so bad for her.

Phantom Queen Morrigan Donating Member | sorry to hear that she knees surgery. Since she's a climber she's gonna have to be in a crate or an ex-pen with a top on it. she gonna have to be kept quiet for at least 6-8 weeks and have rehab done. you can do a search for LP surgery's here and see what those people did. the recovery and rehab are the same.

| Thanks everyone. I actually got a little choked up leaving her this morning. They will keep her over night tonight which is new to me. It is not the actual surgery that scares me, it is the after care for this type of injury. The little booger is so stinking stubborn and challenging, but I absolutely love that about her. Mom to Hot Rod: That is a great idea to keep her from jumping up. I think I will try that. Thank you! Linda44: He did mention keeping her sedated for a couple of days to deal with her behavior issues, so we may have to do that.

| Mylee ended up not having the surgery. Vet called and said after a second physical exam, x-rays, and consulting the otrhopedist, he didn't feel comfortable proceeding. He said her knee feels tight today. She was under anesthesia when he examined her today, whereas the other day she was wide awake and fighting. He went back to thinking her problem is still in the hip (hip displasia) and wants to wait as long as possible, but the FHO surgery will be needed eventually. He said at that time, he may go ahead and examine the knee too surgically, if pain meds and rest don't give her some relief. So again, we wait and see.

Is there a reason they are putting off doing the FHO?

| ladyjane: I asked him that. He said he'd like to wait until her bones are matured (1 yr.). I also asked him if he was certain it is hip displasia and not Legg Perthes. He said there is clearly no blood loss to the bone and no deteriation. He is certain. Hip Displasia is just hard for me to comprehend, because I see that as a large breed issue, not a small dogs, and definitely not puppies this young. So I think I am trying to convince myself it cannot possibly be that. He did say that he would proceed with the FHO if rest and meds do not offer immediate relief.

| She has been on cosequin for about two months. 1/2 tablet daily. That is what it says for under 10 lbs. Should I give her 1/2 tablet twice a day?
