| 6 month yorkie and her teeth.... Hiya my yorkie ( maisey ) hasnt lost her 2 upper canine baby teeth yet and her adult teeth are half way thru, the left one is now wobbly but the right one is not. The vets say the operation is 100 uk pounds and the insurance doesnt cover her . Altho i have no problems paying for her to have the opperation to remove the baby teeth i dont want to pay if its unnesacery.... what is the opinion on here..... maisey is eating drinking playing fighting and chewing everything just great, no sign of distress or anything .. |

| It is common for yorkies to retain baby teeth. The loose one will likely fall out on its own and the other may loosen as the adult tooth comes all the way in. I would give it a bit more time and if the adult teeth come all the way in and she still has any baby teeth left in a couple of months then get them out as they will cause problems if not removed. It is common to have them removed at the time of spay. |

Donating YT 500 Club Member | Hi - First - welcome to YT - you'll love it here!!!! Bridget just had 9 baby teeth taken out at the same time she was spayed. We had her spay scheduled for 3 weeks prior but my vet wanted to wait to see if the teeth came out on their own, but after playing tug - o - war and giving her all kinds of chew toys....they didn't budge - she looked like a shark with two sets across the top!!! I also didn't want to put her through anything more if it wasn't necessary but figured it would probably mess with her bite if I waited too long. (I kind of think of things for her the same I would if it were my children...what would I do.....)I brought her home the same evening as her spay, and the next day she was chewing on her nylabones and her kong. She is eating her kibble (still not loving it - but eating it) better now and I wonder if it had something to do with the baby teeth being loose and causing discomfort. It was $96 dollars for the 9 teeth, but I'm sure if I had not done them at this time it would have been considerably more if done separate from the spay. Good luck!!!!

| My pup's teeth were in the same position that your's is at 6 months, so I decided to wait a little before spaying to see what would happen. The adult teeth were almost all the way in, and the baby teeth didn't losen up AT ALL, so I decided to go ahead and spay and get them pulled. They weren't at all crowded, so I suspect that nothing would push them out. She was spayed 9 days ago, just shy of 7 months, and they pulled the upper canines out then. I don't think you should worry about the one that is loosening up, it will fall out on its own. I think you have a good shot at the other one taking care of itself, too, if you just give it a little more time. If it doesn't loosen up, just have it removed when she is already under being spayed. Two procedures, one recovery.

| Most vets will wait until the pup is spayed/neutered to remove any retained puppy teeth. It is a very common problem with the breed. If they are NOT removed they can and will cause problems down the road. You can give things like bully sticks to help loosen the puppy teeth. The problem then they have retained teeth is food getting caught and causing periodontal disease. Oral care is very important for the health of our Yorkies. Usually if done during a spay/neuter procedure the cost to have them removed is very minimal or even free.
