Donating YT 1000 Club Member | Vaccinations Last year my Yorkie got sick for awhile after het vaccinations. This year I didn't get the one for Kennel Cough thinking that's the one that bothered her. But she is not herself again, same as last time. The vet thinks she may have a reaction to the Distemper Vaccination. She's on the lethargic side, coughing, and was a little crabby with the puppy. It took about a week last year the vet said to wait and see if it passes again this time. She's better today she saw the vet on the 27th.

| Maybe ask your vet to do titers on her next time. At 6 yrs old, she's probably had enough vaccines to keep her immune for the rest of her life.

Donating YT 500 Club Member | I don't think I would give any more vaccinations at her age except for rabies as required by law, especially with her history of vaccine reactions. Another YT member just recently had her yorkie die from a vaccine reaction. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/3102384-post111.html

Donating YT 1000 Club Member | She is a rescue I don't know what her vaccination record was before we got her. We have had her almost two years now so this is only the 2nd round of vaccinations she's had since we've had her. We would just be devastated if she died from us giving her vaccinations! How do you not get them and keep them legal with the city/state?

Donating YT 500 Club Member | Most States require only a rabies vaccination to be legal. And, many States now accept a 3 year rabies vaccine. The other vaccinations are voluntary and although some vets will almost insist they be given, most likely the vaccines are not necessary after the first set of annual boosters. This is a link for recent vaccine protocols from Dr. Jean Dodds': Vaccination Schedule Recommendations For Dogs

Donating YT 1000 Club Member | I will check into this. It's so scary to see her like this and the vet didn't seem all that concerned. She didn't get a Rabie shot this time just Heart Worm test and Distemper.

Donating YT 500 Club Member | After her having a reaction twice now, I would definitely not get another vaccination except the rabies and get that only when absolutely necessary. Also, you can get a waiver for the rabies vaccine from a vet, but you might have to change vets. If your current vet doesn't seem concerned about her reaction, he may not be willing to sign off on a rabies vaccine waiver.
