| back arched and in pain i'm amy and bandit is my 9 year old yorkie. he hasn't been doing very well lately. he's been walking around really stiff and slow with his back arched and seems to be trembling slightly. i am not sure if he is constipated (because this has happened before) or if he is starting to get arthritis. i took him for a drive this am and after that he had a big poop that he seemed to struggle with a little, but he is still acting the same. he is still eating and drinking fine but just wants to hide under the tables and be left alone. i have taken him to the vet about this and he had full blood work and everything was good there so i know he has no developing diseases. so any input would be greatly appreciated as the vets don't seem to be helping and are very expensive. thank you. | I'm sorry your baby is in pain. I don't have experience with these symptoms, so I hope someone will see this who can help you. I do have a 14 year old yorkie with severe arthritis and he doesn't act like this. Did the vet take any x-rays? Check his abdomen? Has bandit had any falls or accidents recently?

| no he hasn't had any falls or accidents. and these symptoms seem to come and go. his abdomen has been checked and he had x-rays probably 2 months ago but at the time they weren't checking for anything in his joints or so i don't know if maybe it was just overlooked. but he does have an old back injury so maybe that is causing his pain? |

| Your yorkie is in pain if he is hunched over. Did the vet give him anything for the pain? I'd be going to an ER vet for this just to make sure the vet is not missing anything. I hope he feels better soon.

| He could very likely have a back injury. Dogs can get slipped discs, etc. just like we do. He needs to be seen by a vet asap. He must be in terrible pain. |

| I agree with the others. He's obviously in pain. Please take him in for another opinion so that he can stop suffering.

| Yes take him in - and don't go to your general vet. Go to an ER hospital if you can, even though it is more money. Barney had been hunched over a couple of times and it can get worse. The last time we had a hunched over dog in pain, he was to the point of passing out and needed morphine immediately. Please do not delay. This could be a slipped disk, an abdominal issue like pancreatitis, or any number of other things. Your dog is trying to tell you he needs help.

| hey everyone thanks for your responses. after his poop, a nap, and some metacam (its a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory from the vet) he seems to be doing great. he is totally back to normal and trotting around and being his normal self. i don't really think i need to take him back to the ER anymore. |

| While vets are not cheap, they are a necessity. If you are not happy with the one you have, maybe put some feelers out for another. Personally, if my pup were acting like you are describing yours, I would want a diagnosis. Sounds like the Metacam helped his discomfort, but you still don't know why he is having pain. You might be able to fix whatever the problem is rather than masking it with medicine. Maybe not....but worth finding out imho. By the way...welcome to YT!

| since he had a back injury and metacam is working I would have a consult with an orthopedic to check out the back. It will not hurt to have this second opinion or have xrays reviewed by ortho to see if they see anything that vet may be missing. If the metacam helped my guess is the back is the issue |

| Glad your boy is feeling better, however the Medecam, can be masking what the actual problem is. When you stop the pain meds if he once again seems to be in pain a vet visit is a must. Good luck and hope he'll be fine, |
