| Complex Partial Seizures or My little Ginger has started having what they are callingComplex Partial Seizures or physcomotor seizures. She will get right on the edge of the bed and start a rapid side to side head movement. She then will jump off the bed and do a tight circle, jump back up on the bed and start the head movement again. This will last for several minutes to 7 plus hours. I have had every possible test they can think of even an MRI of her brain and a total body scan. Countless blook test and cultures and a spinal tap. All Negitive results. This all started shortly after she was spade back in November and ha got progressively worse with time. She is now on Potassium Bromide and Phenobarbatol daily. She still has had two episodes since we started the meds. Anyone ever deal with these problems? Any Ideas or suggestions? I want to change her diet but not 100% sure what would be best for her. I have spent over $5,000.00 on this in the last 45 days and still no nothing more now than I did before. Please give me some ideas!! |

| Hi there! I'm so sorry your baby is going through this... This is who I use for Bailey Holistic Veterinarian Pet Nutritionist Holistic Pet Care for his chronic Pancreatitis (sp) and IBD. She is absolutely wonderful and I haven't had any problems since. I know there are quite a few YT members that have used her to. I highly recommend her! I will keep your baby in my prayers! xxx

| Did she have any problems, even small seizures or low blood sugar issues, before she was spayed? What are you feeding her? |

| Welcome to YT. I am sorry your baby is sick. I am bumping this thread so that it will be seen perhaps by someone who has more experience with seizures.

Now the side effects of the meds have her sedated. They say that will go away as she gets acustomed to the meds. She has gained a little over a pound since being spade last November. We have beed feeding her Eukanuba Yorkie food as that is what she has been eating all her life. I have been looking into changing her food as I know there are better brands of dry food. I just don't know it her diet should be High protein or carbohydrates or what? When you start looking at different brands and ingredients it's all very frustrateing as there are so many choices. I have been cutting back on her portions in an attempt to get her slimed back down to her normal weight of 4 3/4 lbs. I have a 93 year old aunt that lives with us, and she thinks she is helping by giving the dog treats, in a effort to win her attention as she has declaired me her number 1 human friend. She follows me everywhere. I sure would be greatful for any help and advise you can give me. I can't spend much more on this as I am almost broke from all these cost, over $5,000.00, and climbing. I'm am checking on the bile acids. Last edited by travelin4fun; 04-21-2010 at 08:35 AM. | |

Please make sure no ROSEMARY in food , treats, etc as this is known to trigger seizure activity in dogs prone to seizures so everything has been ruled out neurological so are they pretty much saying this is a form of epilepsy? I would join this group as they are very familiar with seizure activity and can help with diets as i believe dogs with seizures in regards to epilepsy should not be on grains but check it out as i am sure they can help shed some light on what is going on k9epileptics : Worldwide Canine Epilepsy Support Group and you are working with a board certified neurologist correct? | As for the aunt and the treats ... if she will not stop, I suggest you give the aunt some low calorie treats to give her!

| I have a male named Bandit, that is just over 2 years old. About a year ago, he started doing a behavior that I described as "watching flies buzzing around his head". I had him checked at three different vets and they could not find what was wrong with him. It progressed and he starting snapping at the air so I video taped his behavior and took him to a neurologist. The neuro told me it was a form of seizure and put him on potassium bromide (PB). He said we could do an MRI to try to identify the problem but even if we found it, what would I be willing to do for him? (I'd just spent over $5,000 on my AAI pup.) He said we would try the PB and if that didn't work, we could try phenebarbitol. We went up and down with the PB... even had to mega dose him for a while to get it to stop. Although the behavior did stop, he started having so many other issues from taking the PB that after about 6 months on the PB, I decided it wasn't worth all the side-effects and weined him off myself. While taking the PB, he was hungry ALL the time and acted like I never fed him... went from 8 pounds to 14 pounds. Had a hard time breathing, and got very clumsy/lathargic at times. He doesn't seem to be in pain and doesn't do it all the time, although it is frequent, I think it bugs me more than it does him... he is much happier without the meds too. He's already dropped a few pounds, is in control of his body again and playing like he used to so I am just letting him live his life and he seems to be enjoying himself. I really don't know what the cause is, I've just accepted the situation and try to make the best of it. I'm not sure I've helped you at all but thought I'd share my story and will try to answer any questions if I can! Jamie |

| All Yorkies should have a Bile Acids Test, esp those with neuro behaviors. Make sure all feed/water bowls are Stainless Steel or lead-free ceramic.

Also, the description of the 'seizures' sounds more suspect of Hepatic encephalopathy than say a seizure that would occur with epilepsy and similar maladies. Also, with these pups, is the goofy behavior occuring within 30 minutes of eating a meal?
