| Projectile vomit twice this week Demi my healthy girl has had projectile vomit twice this week. The first time it was wednesday night and it was a ton of vomit that came out of her so i thought maybe she over ate and no biggie or she did not feel well. Then tonight she drank some water 3 hrs after eating and she laid down and lifted head then out came all the water shooting out with no effort and all her food and it was alot of vomit. Now i am concerned and after she did this she held up her left front leg like it was hurt or something and then acted totally normal running around barking as if nothing happened. any thoughts as she is my healthy one and this is very bizarre as the vomit was like no effort unlike when dex had pancreatitis and he vomits over and over so it was more like a regurgitation demi will be 6 June 2, 2010 if that helps She has not had a blood work up since 9/09 so thinking blood and urine are in order but wanted to get your take on this |

| No effort, so does that mean no heaving? If regurgitation, not sure how much good blood and urine testing is going to do. What about esophagus issues (esophagitis, megaesophagus). Really no idea here, but when Ellie was regurgitating, we went to diagnostic imaging of the esophagus, not blood testing...

| Projectile vomiting, if it is indeed projectile can indicate obstruction.

| When my megaesophagus pup, Josie, regurgitated it was never projectile...it was like an effortless burp. She'd just open her mouth and it would pour out. No retching...no straining of any kind, either.

| I don't want to get into trying to diagnose figure out what meds may or may not work, but if you aren't in a hurry to xray, trying Reglan for a couple weeks may be an option if it continues. Been there. It was liquuid though. Happened a couple-few hours after eating. Happened quite a bit. Xray showed nothing related to this. Tried Reglan for awhile. She is fine. Didn't have to go any further.

| Yes, sometimes it happened once or twice a day; other times it would be every couple days. She even aspirated a couple times. Fun, fun these dogs are.

| Except Josie's was never projectile...it would be a pool of guck right at her feet. Sometimes she'd be laying down and it would be ON her feet. It was like she never had any idea it was going to happen. You'd think with your pup's projectile vomiting, since there's no retching, there must be some kind of huge internal contraction to force it to fly a distance like that.
