CECS In a Yorkie? My Yorkie had an episode seemed like three in a row tonight, went to emergency vet refereed to my personal vet for tomorrow as he seems fine now. It appeared to be a seizure, but after looking at seizure videos he had an episode or several similar to a CECS canine epilepsy contraction syndrome. Anyone ever heard of this in a Yorkie? He's purebred, however he is a Parti Yorkie so his genetic make up is high in recessive genes, i.e. his coloring and he is 11.4 lbs. Calling vet in morning and taking him in right away for testing, but of course, stressed and up all night trying to guess and match symptoms with reasoning for now.

how old is your yorkie as this can be a sign of liver disease - did they run the blood work? was anything high as epilepsy is not real heavy in this breed and usually epilepsy occurs at age of 3 not in younger dogs. Has your dog had any rosemary in food as rosemary can trigger seizures in dogs prone to seizures

Thank you! No, no rosemary that I know of. Chamomile and lavender in mello mut chicken jerky. He is approximately 2 1/2. It wasn't like a seizure though. It was weird. He lost motor function looked like a drunk stumbling around, got really stiff, his legs wouldn't bend, he seemed to not breath I grabbed him to see if he was breathing, he was but every muscle was as tense as could be, then his back arched up like a cat's does when it's hissing and he stayed liek that finally going to his side. Everything he did was in super slow motion. His head began to go back and forth slowly and as though it was automated saying no, he was responsive to me and I could tell he was freaking out but unable to relax, literally he was as hard as a rock and seemed to be in a very uncomfortable and involuntary bending and tightening contraction. He never drooled or shook. I watch videos of CECS and it was the same as he did. I have contacted his previous kennel and the breeder he came from they claim he has never done this nore anyone in his genetic line. The vet ran multiple tests and I won't get the results until Monday morning. They ran, liver/kidney function tests, a full blood panel to check for everything...I just really want to know why it happened and how to what the heck it was. I really appreciate the help, the vet never mentioned a rosemary issue its soooooooooooo nice other "breed specialists: are avalible out there to share information at critical times.

i would recommend seeing this neurologist as it is near you - not a big fan of ucdavis now as they charge as much as bc neurologist and the student works on your dog there even if you request specialist they told me http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/sic...need-help.html

Again thank you! I'm looking it all up right now. thank you so much for your efforts in looking into this. i know my vet is very capable, but as with all doctors they can only know so much and the world of medicine is constantly chaingng everyday from meds to new diagnosis. The hardest part of this is not only not knowing but the waiting. i feel at least like I'm being somewhat, even if it is falsely, proactive and dealing with the issue, by researching a million different possibilities. Elvis is acting normal now at least and hasn't had another episodes..yet. My female mini schnauzer is in heat and he is very responsive to trying to get to her and being active. She's only 6 months old and I'm not planning a breeding now especially with Elvis' new health issue, so they are separated. But at least I know he's able to be active by him trying to get to her. Again its so nice to have a place to get information from people who are a secondary source and very much so "breed specialist" wish they was a Yorkie talk for miniature schnauzers also. Sounds a bit odd to hear myself say it but I really wish Elvis was able to communicate how he was feeling and what happened, perhaps that is the hardest part of pet issues is the having to guess the symptoms by observation only...

neurologist UC Davis My vet is giving me a formal referral to a specific doctor there, and I have already expressed my concern with treatment of a student. I think its great students can participate, everyone starts out as a student. I would also like to update that I'm looking at the diagnosis of "cluster seizures" epilepsy. Is there anyone out there going through this with their dog?

i would ask wylie's mom on here to change your heading to cluster seizure epilepsy or start a new thread with that as your title as i think the title is throwing others off and you may get more response from others with seizures join this group too k9epilepsy : Canine Epilepsy | |
