| Amoxicillin without a Script? My vet charges major bucks each time Knox has a bad cough. He's four months old. This will be the third time he's needed amoxicillin, which clears him up in just few days. Amoxicillin is readily available without a script for humans on the net, but the doses are so large I'd have to split each pill into eighths, and it would still be a larger dose than I want to give Knox, who only weights 3.1 lbs. If you have any suggestions, let me know. |

I'd be more concerned why my 4 mth old dog has needed an antibiotic for a cough "three times"...

| Don't have much advise as I'm not very experienced. But if it were me, think I'd get a second opinion. Good luck. |

Yes, I agree with this, over usage of antibiotics, can make the bacteria become resistant and this can cause real problems. You may be able to buy amoxicillin over the net without a prescription, but that doesn't mean that its safe or legal. Please see your vet, or find a new one, and make sure you are doing everything the vet says and giving the medicine exactly as prescribed, if not, you could be enabling the infection to go stronger.

| You have already been given good advice. He has been prescribed Amoxycillin three times and he is only four months of age? Something does not sound right. I would ask the vet why he is using that antibiotic and certainly question why so many times if it is not working. No way would I EVER give my pups an antibiotic that I purchased on the web....or any other place for that matter. If they are sick enough to need an antibiotic, they need to go to a vet! Please do not prescribe and treat your puppy with any antibiotic!! That is a dangerous thing to do. You could make him VERY ill.

Ok...I just reread this. Are you finishing the antibiotic as prescribed for Knox? You say it clears up in a few days. Are you aware that you need to finish a prescription even IF the infection clears up? You have to give it ALL to him. If you don't, the infection will come back and keep coming back; and at some point the thing you are treating will end up immune to the antibiotic.

| I am sorry your vet charges so much. Could you possibly go to another vet? The last time I need amoxicillin for my dog was when I had my English Bulldog who had a stomach infection. Neiro was 66 lbs and needed a larger bottle - and all I was charged was $12.50 for the medication and $25 for the office visit. You would surely pay more than that for medication and shipping for meds on the net and could very possibly get caught - it is illegal to buy prescription drugs without a prescription. |
