| Broken or sprained??? Help! I need some serious advice! Sassy is 3 yrs old. & i think her Leg might be broken or sprained Last night, she was Rough housing with my other yorkie (Lola) & about an hour later, i noticed Sassy began Limping & would NOT put pressure on her front Leg. I immediatly picked her up & began moving her Leg to see if there was any Chance it was broken. She Let me move it around & even allowed me to put pressure on it, without her whining or even snapping at me to stop. In that case, i dont think its broken. Which leads me to believe it may be sprained or bruised. Sassy will walk as LITTLE as possible, & she hops...so that she doesnt put pressure on that leg. I KNOW THE VET is the BEST ROUTE to take--- However, I am holding off a little longer because i really cannot afford the Xrays & vet Bill right now, or for them to advise me to just keep her off her feet & come back in a few days if she isnt better. Has this happend to anyone else? If so, do you think this is something that she'll just heal on her own with, in a few days? PLEASE HELP! I am very worried!

| I would get her to the vet Maybe set up a payment plan? The damage could be permenent if left untreated and starts to heal wrong....good luck!

| It is one of your responsibilities as a pet owner to get medical care for your pet when you suspect something is wrong. In this case no one on a forum can take xrays to see if the leg is broken. I am sorry but you are going to have to give something up and take your dog to the vet. Just so you know, I pulled a yorkie mix out of a shelter (he had been there a week) and took him to the vet. He had been kicked so hard his leg was ripped out of the socket and was still out...He never let on how much pain he was in even after sleeping on a cold damp cement floor. Please take your dog to the vet.

| I know that this is not what you want to hear, and that things are tight, but if she still isn't putting weight on it then you should take her in. There is not way to tell for certain without x-rays. I have a cousin who had the same thing happen with her dachshund and he was running around fine within a couple days. She assumed it was just a sprain, but is was broken and it healed funny, now it gives him problems and he is becoming arthritic. He is still pretty young and cannot walk very far and has pain in the winter There are things like care credit that you can apply for.

| Molly had a similar thing happen to her and it turned out to be a partially torn cruciate ligament. It healed without the need for an op...but it did need vets visits and anti inflammatories. I have a very good vet and he didnt need to xray her leg, so please go and see your vet asap...it doesnt need to cost you loads of money.

| Hi no one here can help you with some thing like that. they can only guess, your baby needs to be seen by a vet and have x rays done .if it happened yesterday and the dog is still not walking on it some thing is wrong. you can go here and sign up for carecredit. most vets take it. CareCredit Healthcare Finance - Payment Plans and Financing for Cosmetic Surgery, Dental, Vision, Hearing, Veterinary & Other Medical Procedures hope he is ok, keep us updated on her. |

| Sassy really needs to be seen by a vet to make sure that there is no other damage. Our little girl, Maci, had something similiar happen a few weeks ago. We took her in just to make sure that there were no hairline fractures, and thank God there weren't. She basically just had some major discomfort from her knee being dislocated. After several weeks of preventing her from doing too much running/jumping, she is back to normal. However, she didn't use that leg for at least a week or so before recovering. Like others have said, it's one of the responsibilities for owning a pet (especially one so small and fragile as a Yorkie!). Wish you and Sassy the best!

| yes and my dd ruptured acl and spoke to two orthopedics and our vet and they said 2 months rest and she is perfectly fine - it happened 2/09 and she is fine. I think way too many people rush into this surgery and LP surgery when unnecessary in a toy breed. The scar tissue builds up and creates a tendon in small dogs so no need to put them through that surgery unless after 2 mos rest dog is in pain and lifting leg all the time - I just got the wdj yesterday and i am so glad i waited as first vet wanted to do surgery in TWO WEEKS and i consulted with more people and joined conservative management group on yahoo and so glad i did not put my dog through that surgery and even if they have surgery they still can get arthritis so no reason to put them through a surgery to avoid arthritis as they will still get along with scar tissue. And having ruptured my achilles scar tissue lasts a long time after surgery in some people and dogs |

| what leg is it? Did you check the paws? My demi was lifting her front leg prior to christmas and i called specialty hospital that had orthopedic and spoke to them and they said a dog will not put any weight on a leg if it is broken and they will be in alot of pain. If it is a fracture or sprain they will put some weight bearing on it. Also they said the leg will have swelling if broken and to feel the leg. Also i went down the leg and she had no movement until we got to the paw and she flinched. They said if a broken bone in paw nothing they can do and will not see it on an xray and they will just splint her paw. They told me to give it 72 hrs and see how she does and rest her and in 3 days she was perfectly fine. DD jumped of doggie stairs hurt her leg and screamed out - it was her back leg - we rushed her in got xrays the next day no break so ruled possible acl tear and gave her metacam which was a nightmare as she is on steroids - she was so sick. I wished i never took her in as she was doing much better in 72 hrs and vet said pain is your best ally it makes them rest and if you give pain med they walk on it making healing time much longer. I much prefer tramadol for pain than any nsaid - less side effects although tramadol does not have anti-inflammatory like nsaid - NEVER GIVE NSAIDS TO A DOG WITH IBD AS IT AFFECTS INTESTINES AND NEVER GIVE A DOG NSAIDS THAT IS ON STEROIDS |

| Where are you in Texas? An office visit and xray really should not cost all that much. Maybe I can help you find a vet that is reasonable?
