Hip Problems? Does anyone have any thoughts on might could be going on with Muffin? For 2 days now, she intermittedly limps with her left back foot off the ground...we have checked her foot and leg as well as her hips by gently applying pressure to them and she is not whining or "complaining" when we do that. She still plays and runs around (usually hobbles every time she runs). Any suggestions? I have an appt scheduled for her Mon. at the vet, but thought I'd check with all here because you are all great listeners when it comes to furbabies needs....oh yeah, she turned 1 last month...could it be arthritis at such a young age?

| Sounds like Jackson! He also had just turned 1. I started this thread when it happened to him: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/yor...some-help.html I thought it was going to be LP (luxating patellas) since it's so common in the breed but it ended up being Lymes disease! Crazy, right?! She put him on pain meds for 7 days and lyme medicine for a month and he stopped limping 12 hours after medicine and hasn't limped since!

Sounds like it could be luxating patellas. They are very common in Yorkies and other toy breeds: Medial Luxating Patella Make sure your vet checks Muffin's hips, too. Legg-Perthes is genetic in Yorkies: Legg-Perthes Disease - VeterinaryPartner.com - a VIN company!

I just saw my Zeus do the same exact thing last week. No crying or whimpering just a weird little limp. I have been watching like a hawk and haven't seen it again. I am going to start him on glucosamine supplements soon. Please let us know what you find out. Sounds like this is very common I keep reading similar post.

Thanks Britster..the info and video has helped...Muffin walks JUST like Jackson did...even the same leg. I'm hoping that it's Lyme disease instead of LP. We live not quite in town, but not quite in the country either, but southwest Louisiana has ticks year-round. My hubby picked a tick off Muffin 2 wks ago. Could this be the culprit? Would it take that long to affect her?

Sorry I am just now getting back to this. Muffin definitely has LP (both legs..I thought only 1) She is a stage 2, so am going to get funds together as soon as possible to have surgery for her. Keep us in your thoughts, please!

Oh poor Muffin! Sorry to hear she has LP. Does she seem to be in any pain? Or does the pain come as the stages progress? Sending hugs to Muffin!

No, Zues..she doesn't appear to be in pain. The vet said it was painful, and I'm sure that is. I did get some pain meds for her and will give them if she appears to be in pain..but as of yet, she is still acting like her normal hyper self....just limping.
