| Would you buy a Morkie who has tested positive for giardia? There is a morkie in our local pet store that I know from someone who had a fecal test done on her has tested positive for giardia and then given medicine. She has been in this pet store since before thanksgiving and I feel terrible for her. She is marked down in price (not that it matters), but I am wondering if anyone would give me their opinion on whether or not to "rescue" her. We had a yorkie, Biscuit, for almost 10 years and he died fairly suddenly in November due to some type of illness that even the vet specialist couldn't diagnose or cure I would love to hear from some of you. Thanks. |

| I've had my furbaby for 2 1/2 months, and she's had Giardia from the get go. We think she keeps re-infecting herself from eating her poop. I have now treated her for the third time. She's extremely healthly otherwise, no diarrhea and gaining weight.

Donating YT 500 Club Member | By "rescuing" this pup, you are just opening up a space for the next puppymill bred puppy to be sold. And, you're condemning the mother of this morkie, to more time in the puppymill prison. It's not rescuing, it's buying a puppy and no matter how hard it is, to not get this morkie, it's what you (and thousands of others) must do if the horrible cycle is to ever stop! If people STOP buying from pet stores, believe me, the pet stores will quit offering puppies for sale!

| You would just be supporting the puppy mill where she came from. I wouldn't take the risk since she might have a lot of other problems that need to be fixed by the vet (and are costly).

| My dog came with Giardia... it was treated and all is well now... it is not the end of the world. I would be more concerned about the potential for other health issues to show up because of where the pup came from. |

| Thank you all so much for replying. You are right....by purchasing her it would only promote more puppies being bought/sold from this awful place. I searched online and found out that this petstore, Safari Stan's, is actually of franchise of Petland...more reason no to buy a puppy. I just feel so bad for her just sitting there in her cage. I will just have to be strong and look for a reputable breeder. I have never purchased a dog before so this is a first for me....learning about petstores and puppy mills...how horrible. Our first dog, Biscuit, was given to us by a neighbor who's yorkie had puppies and I loved him dearly. |

| Try calling or emailing these breeders: Yorkshire Terrier Club of America About The Club They might have a puppy or an older dog available. Would be a beautiful well-bred dog, too. Good luck with your puppy search!! You can always get a re-home off of Craigslist that is an older dog. That's where I got Scruffs, and although he is not from the best breeder he is still a great dog and was in need of a new home. I don't think adopting a puppy mill dog or getting a re-home dog from a bad breeder is considered supporting a puppy mill.

Our Blessings R Many Donating Member | Quote:
Good luck in whatever decision you make, our Baby Blessing was diagosed with Giardia when we first got her, whatever the meds was that our vet gave her to dilute in the distilled water helped to take care of the problem and she got over the Giardia quickly. Immediate attention was and is so important. We never had another reoccurance. She did not come from a pet store or puppy mill and came from a reputable breeder. I have such a spot in my heart for all furbabies whether they come from a pet store, puppy mill or whereever, they each need to be placed in a good loving home, so my thoughts and wishes are that each one gets placed in it's loving forever home. Personally, if I were you and fell in love with this puppy I wouldn't hesitate for a moment to get her but I sure wouldn't if I had other dogs because I wouldn't want them to get it. So sorry about your loss of Biscuit, similiar happened to us with our Cassie. It is so hard to loose one, am glad your heart is geared towards getting another. Best to you and prayers that God will lead you to the one meant for you to get. From us both, Patti and Jack and Girls | |
