| Am I being paranoid? My friend has 2 Yorkies and 1 Maltese. One of her Yorkies got sick last weekend (new years eve) - diarrhea, vomiting, & lethargic. She rushed her to the vet and they admitted her and kept her overnight. Put her on IV and antibiotics. She did well and was sent home after a day and a half. Two days later, the other two got sick - same symptoms. They were immediately put on antibiotics and prescription wet food so they wouldn't get as sick as the first pup. After about a week, they all seemed to be back to normal. This past weekend, my friends mother came to her house, but didn't bring her maltese over - just to be on the safe side. She played with my friends pups and all seemed well. The pups were happy and kissing my friends mother etc.... Well, yesterday morning - now her dog is sick. Same symptoms - the maltese is now at the vet and has is being put on the same meds! The weird thing is...all these pups are stay at home inside pups. Never go out unless they are going to the vet, they are only exposed to each other. Seems like a weird coincidence, but I believe that my friends mother, brought this virus home to her dog, simply by hanging out with the 3 pups. DH is freaking and doesn't even want me going near my friend for fear I may bring the virus home to my pup. Has anyone ever heard of this type of dog virus? And am I being paranoid? |

| There has been a dog flu going around with those symptoms, a couple I've heard of have been bad enough to be in the hospital for several days on IV fluids and meds. And although the dogs don't go out, your friend and her mom do and could have picked up the virus on their shoes, clothes, hands etc. and spread it between the dogs and homes. So I'd say no, you're not being paranoid. I'd give it a couple of weeks for the virus to get well past the incubation period and not be contagious before I'd visit your friend's house or have her visit yours. |
