| Help please!!!! OK, so i have had my yorkie for almost 6 months now and she is 9 months old, my BF Tyler and i started her off on Science food diet for puppies and we figured we would switch it up last week, we now use Merrick puppy plate,(we got it wednesday of last week) we have the hard food and the soft food. Right away when Tyler put the new food out she went to town on it, up until yesterday!!!? i was cleaning and she hates when i have the vaccum out so she sat on our bed the whole time, when i got done to check on her i found her in the closet, and 3 piles of vomit on the bed? i figured it had to be a mix of her new food and her being scared so i layed with her and thought everything would be ok. i left for work, roxi was only home alone for an hour and tyler told me she had puked on the bed 2 more times? i got home she was fine playing around acting normal, going out side doing everything normal!! we get in bed and we are all laying in bed and she jumps down and vomits on the floor!!? jumps back up and goes to bed... this morning i wake up to four piles of vomit and consecutive vomit through out the day..what is going on? i need help? i talked to my vet she told me to take food and water away for 12 hrs and to feed saltin crackers? she puked ab 10 mins ago after eating the crackers an hour ago? is she bulimic? whats wrong? can anyone help? im new this is our first puppy and im scared. |

| By any chance did you switch her to the new food without weaning her onto it by adding the new to the old little by little? I agree with Mardelin, she definitely needs to be seen by your Vet asap! Keep us posted... Hugs, Jo Ann

| This is Tyler, we'll get her to the vet ASAP. What type of treatment should we expect them to perform? I'm guessing it's going to be an I.V. and some wet canned food to get her electrolytes back up. Once she's better, how should we proceed with feedings? Keep her on the current food but wean it back to Science Diet over the next 4 to 6 weeks? |

| unfortunately I did pretty much jump her right into the new food... I had let her old Science Diet run almost completely out so she only had a blend of the 2 (old and new food) for a couple of days. While we're talking about food, what's everyones opinion on Science Diet? What should we move her to, if anything? I thought the food I had picked up looked better as far as ingredients go (less preservatives, less wheat/corn, etc.) |

| little Roxi's on the way to Banfield Pet Clinic. When I explained everything to them they think she may have gotten into something. They mentioned that, had it been a food issue, it would have manifested itself within the first few days, instead of a week later. I think the same. We'd put down some type of carpet fresh powder on the carpets to help clean up stains from her house training. I was weary of it since she's very curious and has a tendency to lick on spots on the carpet. I think she might have ingested some of that... |

If you did a sudden change, what she would have been experiencing is diarreah, not vomiting..... Merrick is great food, but since there are no perservatives, one needs to keep track of the experation dates and how it is stored. My girlfriend who has one of my pups, experienced similiar to what you are (Merrick food). She was storing it in the garage in a big plastic container in the summer. Pup got deathly ill and ended up in the hospital for 3 days.....IV, antibiotics, tests, etc.

YT 2000 Club Donating Member | Agree /. We use vinegar and water to clean our hardwood floors. Too many furbutts noses to the ground. For your carpet get a steam cleaner and Orange Oxy will help to lift out smells and stains.

| how is this little one doing? I am not a fan of merrick foods since the owner of it owns a rendering plant and is always lobbying to put rendering parts in dog food so easy access since he owns both. Did you check the date on the dog food to make sure it was not bad as i have sadly been given expired vet shampoos, food by even vets offices so i always check dates on everything now before buying. I also only use vinegar and water and a shark steamer for cleaning dogs pick up things on their paws and then lick them and also they sweat only through their pads so the pads are absorbent into the body Last edited by dwerten; 12-29-2009 at 06:16 PM. |
