| anal sacs or red rectum? Today I noticed Pixie itching her bottom a lot and I lifted her tail to see and her rectum is red and swollen. She has been a lil constipatated and I was wondering if it is her anal sacs or can dogs give themselves a hemrhoid? I soaked her bottom in warm water. Do I need to call the vet for this? Has anyone ever had this problem with thier lil one?

| I would see if a vet could look at her today as most will be closed tomorrow. A red rectum for no reason could be a problem.

| I would call you vet. Anal glands need to be expressed from the inside out, and when your dog scoots their butts on the floor, that is a sure sign they need to be expressed, they can also get prolapsed rectums....just montior her...good luck.....

| I called the vet and they said to soak her in warm water for 10 min and run my finger down her bottom a lil, kinda gross how they explained it. so I did that and about an hr later she went poop and her bottom looked better the redness was gone and she wasn't itching. So I think she is fine now.
