| Maisie has diarhoea and now is dull and cold Maisie got into Tobys food, and pretty much since she has had diahorea (going from loose stools, to pure liquid at the minute). I have tried to put her on chicken and rice but it hasn’t helped. The same thing happened Toby when I moved him to orijen, and the vet said to fast him for 24 hours, and then keep him on chicken and rice for a week or so til it sorted itself. Worked fine. So I tried fasting Maisie, she got her feed last night, and none this morning. By mid morning she wasn’t herself. I am at work, but my aunt checked in on them and said she was dull and lifeless and quite cold, she didnt get out of her bed immediately. She tried her with some glucose syrup and she perked up almost instantly and wanted to play with Toby, so I guess her blood sugars were dropping too much as a result of fasting. I am going to take her to the vets in a few hours time, but am worried they will just say to fast her again. Any ideas? And we don’t have the canned pumpkin here that you have. She is 15wks and 2lb

| I'm sorry! I saw your post this morning but I didn't have any advice for you. Did the vet say what is wrong?

| He said it is gastroenteritis. Can be caused by nutrition ie food change, virus or parasite (ie giardia). He didnt think it was the food change, usually diahorea is the only sympton. She wouldnt even lift her head when I got home from work, was vomitting, wouldnt even eat chicken, and was constantly pooing (though it was just liquid coming out of her). He said there have been a lot of dogs in recently with diahorea, but as she is so small and young, it can be a lot more serious than a adult dog. Her temperature was very high (104). He gave her an antibiotic and antiinflamatory to try and get the temperature dog. she wasnt dehydrated, and he said she was alert enough not to need a drip, he would just inject the scruff of her neck. He said he wouldnt try feeding her to tomorrow afternoon. After 48hrs tests would be done on a stool sample if no better. When I seen her tonight it was just like when Millie was dying. I have such a bad feeling. She deteriorated so quick. She was fine at 9.30am and by 12 noon she wouldnt get up, was cold and lifeless, and vomitting.

| I am so glad you took Maisie to the vet. Even a little tummy upset can become serious quickly in toy breed dogs. It does sounds like she may have something else going on with a 104 degree fever, though. I hope she feels better soon. |

| awe poor baby! Well she is in good hands and on the road to recovery! Daisy has spent many nights in the hospital as a pup with all sorts of things. I know how hard it is to leave them overnight. Know that your baby is in good hands and I will pray for you!

| Please please pray for Maisie. She has gotten worse overnight, and there is nothing else the vet can do. She has to fight it herself.

| I rang the vet again (only spoke to them a few hours ago). Am sick with worry and not knowing. They said she is very up and down. About an hour ago they were very worried about her. She was very lifeless. But they gave her more fluid and glucose and she has perked up a bit now. She also ate a small bit of food. They gave her a bland cat food to try to encourage her to eat, but not too much in case it makes the diarhea worse. They are happy with her at the minute, but is not out of the woods yet.

| I've been thinking about Maisie all night. I was so glad to come online and see you'd posted an update. I sure it wish it was better news, though. I'm still praying for her recovery, and sending prayers to you, too.

| I'm so sorry your baby is sick...It seems your vet has checked her for giardia...Did he check her for coccidia as well? They can go down hill really quickly, as they don't eat or drink, until the meds kick in (albon) which takes a couple of days...Praying she's on the road to recovery.... |
