| Sasha update again..... About 4 months ago, my little yorkie who was about 3 months at the time, had a really bad episode. She was very lethargic and was drooling. she was completely disoriented and was walking in circles and against the walls. WE took her to the vet that night and the vet said she may have had something wrong with her liver. She took tests, no i dont know what the bile acids test results were, and that is why the vet came to that conclusion. She said that it may be a liver shunt. We took her to another vet the next day, about 2 hours away from where I live, and had more tests done, (the other vet was only an emergency hospital clinic). She was very weak. she had an ultrasound, which had no sign of a shunt but her liver did look small. The vet gave me 2 meds, metrondazole syrup and lactulose. The vet also prescribed me L/D hills diet. they recommended that we get a scintigraphy done. WEll, i was getting the food at petsmart and they were giving me I/D instead of L/D and I hadn't noticed. Sasha was being fed this for a month. She became a little sick again after the meds went out and started to be lethargic, but thats it. I took her to the vet again and they recommended a scintigraphy again. and gave me anothe rprescription for L/D. I went to another facility to get the L/D . Now she has been absolutely great! She is still on L/D and the 2 meds i mentioned. Not a day has passed that she has been lethargic or sick and it has been 2 months! I haven't gotten a scintigraphy done yet b/c of money problems but I do plan on getting it done next week. What do you think is wrong with her? Liver shunt or MVD? or maybe something else? |

Donating YT 500 Club Member | That's great Sasha is doing so much better. I don't know much about LS or MVD but there are many here that do and hopefully will post an answer for your question. I do believe there are a couple of good liver function support diets that may be more beneficial than the L/D.

| ok so the place where the scintigraphy is done raised their prices from $395 to $495 as of December 1, 2009. Therefore, I cannot get the procedure done. Maybe within the next few months when I have money Ican do it. As of now, I am just going to let the leaves fall where they may. She looks great on meds and L/D food so Im going to stick with that. I am not going to take her to a rescue so that she can have surgery or get the procedure. So please do not suggest that. I am also not going to give her up to someone who can afford the procedures. I am keeping my baby and that's that. She looks fantastic and hopefully she will stay that way. Her energy level has been at it's highest for the past 3 months so I am hoping it stays. |
