| Very Worried I could really use some information out there for Gracie, Gracie is a year and half and just got over a uti, and the vet wanted more urine to check to see if it still remains, she did see some protein in her urine and wants me to continue on her antiabotic for 7 more days, she then wants to check it again with some other expensive testing. I really worried that Gracie might have kidney problems, anyone have any suggestions or experiences with this, please let me know. Thanks Kellie and Graice |

I would not worry about kidney disease and if you are concerned about it then have the blood panel done as if kidney disease urine is a good indicator but also your dogs Creatinine level will be off - if bun alone is off that is dehydration but if creatinine and bun are off then there is a problem. You need to try to get your dog to drink more water and the best way is to change water 3-4 times a day if you can. I prefer spring water. My maltese tested one time before dental with a little protein and her bun was off but creatinine was fine but she will not drink water unless it is fresh and when we put a fresh bowl down she runs over and drinks it up so we try to do this often for her to get her to drink more water. Also dh brothers cat had kidney issues and vet told them to put a bowl of water in every room so cat had it readily available. I strongly recommend probiotics for dogs having issues with bacteria as well -I used dds plus from the vitamine shoppe in the fridge 2 capsules 30 min before food in am and it will help. There are also cranberry items for dogs that can help Do not stress too much and let me know more of what is going like how was urine captured, etc and what expensive test they want to do. The cultures are not cheap as i have had a fecal culture, skin culture and now urine culture and they take more time and are more expensive as more labor intesive for the lab therefore more costly to you | |

| I started giving her a little plain nonfat yogart and I caught her urine by putting a plastic lid under her while she was peeing and then sucked it up with the syringe the vet gave us. She is on clavamax for another 7 days and then I have to take more urine in so they can see whats causing her protein in her urine. I will let you know when I get those results. In the mean time I will get her those capsules. Thanks Kellie and Gracie |
