Yorkie Yakker | Worried about Liver shunt I am worried about Twinkle, when she was 3 months and got really sick with hypoglycemia, the doctors and I thought liver shunt. After about a week of TLC, she was fine and I never took her back to be tested. Twinkle has always been a picky etaer but she will eat, she has not vomited, did have some loose stools(but I tried her on another food becasue she tires of her food(royal canin) My concern is that she is not herself to me. Today she was not happy at all to see me as usual. I think she may be depressed but she will play with us, so I am unsure I get her a companion this weekend because I worry she is lonely. I was sitting watching TV and all of a sudden she took off running around the living room and then just stopped. Every now and again I have seen her rub her body against the furniture or stairs but not her head and not often. I wonder if I am just paranoid because she almost died the first time, so I am scared of her every move. Her weight is fine. My other friends that have Yorkies always tell me how energetic there pups are. Twinkle has never been that, she hardly barks unless she wants something that we are eating, other then that, never. Never gives me any problems at all but I have noticed that she runs from us all the time now , like she is scared. I wonder if I am just paranoid because she got so sick in the beginning? |

Donating YT 2000 Club Member | If your vet recommend coming back and having her tested that is what you need to do asap. If you are worried at all get to the vet and have her checked out. If something is wrong it may not be the time to bring another home...you need to check her out first. As far as playing alot it is hard to tell what is normal. I have had pups that play like crazy and go nuts. I have had 2 that I got when they where puppies and they never played at all..they was happy just sitting on my lap.

Is she scheduled for a bile acids test? That's the one she needs to rule out liver disease. Dr. Center recommends that all Yorkies have a bile acids test once they reach 20 weeks old since liver shunts are so common in the breed, not just those who are showing symptoms. It will also give your vet a baseline in the future should she start showing symptoms and may prevent invasive and expensive tests like biopsies later on. PSVA and MVD Research Summary | |
