| need a quick answer buckeye had his teeth cleaned today. the vet said stop al food and water at 8PM last night.. we did. they said to have him there by 7:30 this morning. we did. i called at 11:30 this morning to see how he was doing. they had not yet started on him. i called again at 1:30 to see how he was doing.. they were out to lunch and would not be back until 2:15. i called again at 2:20 to see if i could come get him yet. they said they would have to call me back he was just waking up. they called me at 3 said i could come get him at 3:30. i was there at 3:25 to pick him up. they said not to give him food or water until tomorrow morning. he is begging......i feel so bad. he is very active . no signs of being weak or anything like that. my question is do you think i could give him a few morsels of food and little water? i know the vet said no because it might make him sick.. but.... i am sure you know how much he is wanting something. what do i do give in or stick to nothing?

| hmmm, idk i would think not giving him water for that long is a bad thing.. maybe you can call another vet and ask for advise and see what they say? i know the food part is okay, it won't hurt him any, but the water is very very important even when fasting they have to have water.

| sorry about that, yes your right, not to give him food i would say is okay, but i would give him water. not alot of water but just enough to where he won't get dehydrated. do you have nutrical or kayro syrup? if you have either i would give him some of that too so he doesn't get hypoglycemic. 1tsp of either is good.

| yes because of the anestetic. they said it would make him sick. but i thought i would try just a little . they have to put them under to clean them.buckeye is not a chewer so therefore his teeth don't get cleaned other than the dry food and my brushing. which is not enought evidently.

| well i guess a little dab will do ya... i gave in and gave him 1 cc of water and a dab of nutra-cal. he has stopped beggin with those little eyes and settled down to sleep. that phase is over now just wait to make sure he doesn't get sick. guish, this section of YT is a keeper!you are probably thinking... gee if she is this bad with just a teeth cleaning how is she going to make it thru a neutering? that one comes just after Ahia has her puppies.(a bit late huh?) I will probablly bugging someone for that episode too.

| By all means give that baby some water. They dehydrate so easily. He will have gone almost 2DAYS! without food and water. I know the IV at the vet re-hydrated him some, but canned fatfree broth, a scrambeled egg, pedialyte or similar product. Keep an eye on his gums-should be nice and pink. White to gray are signs of shock and must be dealt with stat. Did the vet by any chance do a sub-Q fluid just before you brought him home? Mine do if I request it. Takes a few hours for that to absorb. Is he peeing and pooping normally? I am sure he will be alright but I would interview other vets in your area.. |
