| Toys/Games for LP Surgery Recovery?! Hi everyone, My sweet little Moose has been diagnosed with LP in both back legs, grade 3-4 in the right and grade 2 in the left. Of course I am so upset and heartbroken to see him suffer this way. After many second opinions we have decided to go ahead with surgery and he has his first appointment with the surgeon on Monday, with surgery probably happening in the next week or so depending on the surgeon's reccomendation. I am already thinking ahead for tips/help on dealing with the long recovery period. I want Moose to heal and rest but would also like to keep him entertained as well to keep his mental spirits up during this painful time for him. He is (was) a very active dog, just a little over a year old and thrives off of our play/walks/cuddle time with him so I want to make sure he keeps his happy and playful personality even during this tough time. Any tips on toys or games that helped to keep your baby happy during after LP surgery? P.S.. I know I will be posting more questions Monday after his first appointment with the surgeon! I am SO eager for information from those who've experienced this and ANY kind of info would help put my mind at ease! It's so wonderful to have everyone as a resource! Thank you!! -Moose's Mom |

| While Hot Rod was recuperating, I made sure to stock up on bully sticks. He also 2 favorite soft toys, a lamb that he gnaws the heck out of the tail and a turtle with a square piece sew on top (which he chews). This was basically all he did during his recovery period. Our sofa is such that I can pull the back down and it has a table on it--I started to put his harness on him with a lanyard. I wound the lanyard around my wrist to make sure he did not jump of the table. This way he was able to spend time out of his crate and be with us in the evenings.

| bully sticks are the way to go. Zoe had LP surgery over two years ago. They recover quicker than you think. Good luck!

| My chihuahua, Bitsy, had luxating patella surgery on both knees at the same time last November. She is only 3 lbs, so I got a used bassinette with wheels and would roll her around the house with me. She could kind of move around in the bassinette but she couldn't run or anything. We were told that she couldn't walk at all for 8 weeks!! It was tough. I used to bring her in a bag to walk with the other dogs or I would put her in the stroller just to get her some air. Bitsy is pretty much a lap dog anyway so she was happy as a clam to have all of Mama's attention. The incisions heal so quickly. I think it is harder on us that it is on them. I don't like seeing my babies in pain. The worst part for them is the Elizabethan collar that they have to wear so that they don't lick their wounds. They have soft collars now that look like whip lash collars. I ended up making one for Bitsy since she is so small. She had a "Hello Kitty" one! Here is a photo of her in her collar and a photo of her incision 4 days after surgery and a photo of the wonderful shave they gave her!! Just so you know what to expect. Good Luck, everything will be fine!!
