| Jemma's bloodwork came back, no spay I honestly don't know what's going on. the vet left me a message stating Jemma's kidney count came back high. What actually was high, I don't know. In hr message she said it could be a common infection or she could be dehydrated, huh? I will admit Jemma use to like her water but since being on the Raw prey diet, water is almost of the past for her. Anyway she asked that I bring in a urine sample. WHAT??? How the heck to you get a 4 pound pup not to squalt low so you can catch her stream, like yea, Jemma's gonna let me do that. Called the vet and they said yes, it can be difficult, bring her in today and we'll get it. I hang up laughing thinking they think they are getting it? Hmmmm, then I started thinking. They aren't gonna wait all night for her to go pee. So I thought they must use a cath. Nope. I called back and asked them if they use a cath. No, they take her in the back and do a ultra sound to locate the bladder THEN THEY INSERT A NEEDLE THRU HER STOMACH!!!! Yes I'm screaming here. I said, come again? I said that sure as hell is gonna hurt her. Do you sedate? No. OMG my friends I feel terrible for Jemma. I hope it is a small infection that can be cleared quickly. But I just can't imagine the pain my baby is gonna feel with this Prayers my friends for Jemma

| I would try to somehow attach a little plastic bag or bottle to her and get the sample myself. You could use a towel or something and strap it on to her.

| It will be okay. It may be the BUN which can come up with dehydration. Was she fasted before the bloodwork? Raw is full of moisture, so she may not need to drink much. BUN slightly elevated one time may not be a big deal. It is good to do a U/A though. Some people turn a pee pad upside-down and when the pup pees on the plastic, they pour it into a container. It may work, but the urine can easily get contaminated this way and really isn't the most accurate. You can put a ladle or measuring cup under her when she squats. That works for Ellie. Or you can let them go ahead with the cystocentesis. It is the best way to collect because the urine doesn't get contaminated. It is quick and easy. This is how Ellie has it done now. I just like it better in some cases. She has had at least 4 or 5 of them and it really isn't a big deal at all. One of the times a vessel or something was hit and she got a circle around the area. That didn't even seem to bother her.

| Thank you everyone. And Ellie, that was a great idea about turning the pad over but it's too late. I took her and they did it. They said it doesn't really hurt them. I don't know, it sure would hurt me. Thank you so much for your input. Anyway, they said the vet just wanted this done for now. She doesn't want to do anything more with her right now until this comes back. Thanks!! Ellie, no she did not fast before the blood work

| Awww, poor Jemma, hope that she is okay. I was told to stick a tupperware lid under Hot Rod (he squats at home, lol). It worked! The funny thing was having to do it outside the vets office building! I know the people in the other buildings thought I'd lost my mind! When he was being tested for his uti, he would not go for them (I knew he wouldn't) so after 3 hours of them trying, I offered to come back and get the sample. Sure enough, within 30 seconds of taking him outside he picked his little leg up and let loose.

My Tiny Treasures Donating Member | Two ways I have done it..... Waited with a lid from a container to slip it under her - that worked and the 2nd one was I just took the pee pad away and had her pee on the hard floor and suck it up with a syringe. I'd not want them to do that either. I'd stay up all night trying if I had too. Good luck!!! Quote:
