| My baby was hurt just now, HELP :( This is about my 5 month old Miely , Suzi 's baby sister. I was using scissors to cut out a mat , it was necessary to get the mat out, she is a shih tzu, I heard he let out a yelp, then I saw that I accidently cut her The skin is showing, I think she needs stitches, do they do stiches in pups? I am so upset about what I did , in tears. It hardly bled, I used neosporin , and loosley wrapped up her leg, until I can get her to the vet . It is midnight now, and there is no vet in this tiny town I live, I got to go in first thing tommorow. I can't believe I hurt my baby .I am feeling sick. She seems ok , however I am not.

| Awww, don't feel bad. You didn't mean to do it. Sometimes they move and we accidentally nick them. I remember when Hot Rod was a little guy and I was trimming his ear hair so they could stand up and he moved and I nicked his ear. He didn't react badly at all. He let out a tiny yelp but that was about it, he sat there and really didn't know what to do. I think I was more freaked out than he was. I felt (and still do) so bad! He has a little jagged mark on his ear til this day. And then a couple of weeks ago I was trimming his backside and he moved and I got him. Well, this time he reacted and I scooped him up right away and grooming was done with. Fortunately, this time there was no blood or punctures. I know how you feel, but just give some extra hugs and kisses and lots of lovins.

| Poor baby, don't feel bad though. I did the same thing when I was trimming Oscar's ear hair. I nipped him and he screamed. There was a tiny flap of skin that bled a little. I just applied pressure to stop the bleeding and kept neosproin on it and it healed up just fine. I think I was more traumatized than he was. He was fine right after it happened and forgot all about it. It didn't even hurt him after the fact. Hope your little one is OK. Best wishes.

| thank you for the replies! the injury , cut was very small, less then a 1/2 inch . I overeacted big time . Miely did not need stitches. First time ever I have done something like this, and felt like s**t, so badly. She is fine though . I will be using clippers , no matter what . Never try and use scissors for a matt again~ I feel better and so does little Miely boo . She is behaving normally , this morning, she jumped up onto my stomach , then inched her way up to my chest, I queitly talked to her, telling her how sorry I was for hurt you, Precious Miely , kissed my whole face , I felt as if she knew what I was telling her, and forgave me. I still feel bad about it even happening. I'll get over it, once her little wound heels.

| Oh, I so understand. I did that once to my yorkie poo. I cried for days after. She was fine...I was NOT! I learned after that what to do about mats. Always slide a comb underneath the mat if you decide to cut. That way there is something in between the scissors and skin!

| update on miely boo bear can't stop crying right now, my heart is broken into. my dear baby has to have surgery> I had nOT realised the severity of the laceration> Well it was not as big as it is deep, so no she needs it fixed sugically. oMG, I just want to be in her place instead , of my little one being overnight in the hosiptal. It is a helpless , awful, feeling. To know I caused this, and Yes I know this was purely an accident. However, I am not coping well. Not coping well at all. The vert is great though, they gave her pain meds this evening to help her feel better, and he said I could leave her pink blanket with her. The reason why they can;t stich it up normally because their was a loose flap of skin that the vet said would not work to close her injury. Now she has to be placed under , and stitched up, then be given antibiotics and pain meds. AND anther worse case, is that she has not been vaccineated for her rabies, the vet saw how she had bit me in a few places, so now says he has to call the health departmetn, and possibly have her quaritnined!!! 10 days, but that is usually done inside the home. She is not rabid!!! never been outside ever, so the vet said she may be young enough not for it to be a problem, yet he has to report it. My head hurts, my heart hurts, and I can't stop bawling . What a horrid experience for any pet owner to go through, because i have a deep love for my 2 girls, I can;t seem to be bouncing back , just keep crying off and on since she has to stay and have surgery. I don't feel well, and this sinking feeling is not going away until I know Miely boo bear is ok. I wait until tommorow , then I can go pick up my baby. i am borrowing money against myself for next month to cover the expensses, since I am on full disablity, this is not my concern at the moment , it is of my precious little puppy. PLease say prayers for Miely, I am distraught , can't stop crying , just knowingthat i hurt her, even though I know in my head it was a terrible accident .

| I do hope everything goes ok. I know it is difficult to leave them at vets overnight, but try to get rest. Good night.
