| yorkie is hacking/gagging My friends yorkie is making coughing and gagging sounds. Almost like he's has something stuck in his throat. Any suggestions. She says he might of got a hold of a piece of pig ears (son's bigger dog). He is still able to eat his kibble and wet food. Drinking water ok. Any advise for her? Thanks, Belle |

| Have your friend check the hair around the muzzle of her yorkie to make sure hair has not been swallowed during eating. Lift the lips out and you'll be able to see if hair is attached and disappears into the mouth. If you pull on it, it should come up. I've had this happen and it caused similar symptoms. The other thing is the teeth could be loose in the the mouth. If it's none of these, a vet visit may be in order. |

Donating YT 30K Club Member | That happens to mine once and awhile and once I gently pull the hair out they are fine. Hope that's all it is.

| My yorkie has been doing these dry cough sounds and it sounds like he is trying to cough something up. It turned out to be kennel cough that he got from other dogs and it then developed into pneumonia. When I pushed on his trachea region (lightly) he would start the coughing which is a tell tale sign that his trachea is infected. So he may be illin...there are videos on youtube of dogs with kennel cough so you can see if it sounds like that |

| Hacking here too! I did take my Holly to the Vet...and she said nothing seemed wrong...of course Holly did not hack or gag in front of her...Holly had no temp and was normal in her routine...but, I find that she does have hair inside her mouth from the muzzles lip area...so thanks for the information I will take care of the hair right away....and let everyone here know if that stops the hacking. | Sounds like my Rambo. He's 4 mos. and weighs 2lbs 9 oz as of today. I brought him to the vet for his final round of shots and she says it sounds like he has sinusitis. He sneezes and also reverse sneezes and I thought he had kennel cough, but the vet says kennel cough only lasts for 3 weeks at the most. She prescribed Chlortripolon (which is an antihistamine) from the drug store in 4 mg tablets, cut in half and given in the morn and evening. I've tried just about everything. He's already had surgery to remove parts of a pacifier.

| my yorkie is coughing too She does one short cough. It doesn't sound like honking (collasped trachea). She was vaccinated for bordatella when she was 4 mos. So could it possibly be kennel cough? She is 11 mos now. She does it sometimes after she has been jumping or running. So on average she has been doing it once every two or so hours. She jumps and runs all the time. She just started this yesterday. I checked the muzzle, so I am waiting to see if that works. If it doesn't should I take her to the vet. |

| Is this a recent development or has it been going on for awhile? Max had a throat irritation once that made me think he was choking. We took him to the ER and the doctor confirmed his throat was raw. A round of antibiotics cleared him up.
