| Anyone have experience with Chemo???? My poor baby has been diagnosed with hemangiosarcoma after having emergency surgery to remove her spleen. I am now faced with the decision to do chemo. Has anyone been through this or have any advice on what I can do??? I am completely devastated. |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | I am so sorry!! What kind of chemo...like IV or pills? My Wylie has Atypical Cushing's Disease - and right now we are trying to balance his system. The drug I have to use now is a chemo drug called Lysodren - I started giving it 2x week, but saw no change in symptoms...now we're up to 3x week for 3 weeks and I'll watch for changes. So far, he is doing GREAT on this drug in terms of side effects. He will have to be on it for life (if this is the pill that works, that is). But, this mode of giving "chemo" may be totally different from what you're talking about (if you're talking IV). So, if you feel like sharing more - feel free. I'm here for you.

Phantom Queen Morrigan Donating Member | I'm so sorry to hear that your baby has Hemangiosarcoma. How old is she? Is she otherwise health?

| It's the IV type of chemo. The oncologist said she would lose hair and her color would change. I just don't want to see her like that. But the vet said she would not be in pain. Really not sure what to do. |

| She's 11 but still looks and acts like a puppy. Has never been sick until now. It's horrible. I just can't believe it's true. Yorkies rarely get this type of cancer and it's one of the worst. |

Phantom Queen Morrigan Donating Member | Unfortunately your right, it is pretty bad. I used to work for a vet surgeon and we did many types of surgery to remove cancers. We also had an oncologist in the office so after recuperation from surgery the dogs would usually see the oncologist. Many dogs did very well. I do not know a lot about oncology. i have seen hair loss from certain types of chemo that was done on specific areas. Their hair all over does change texture, usually becoming softer and can change color in certain areas. Chemo on dogs and cats is a lot different then chemo on people. They aren't as stressed and don't get as sick as people. I think you should talk to the oncologist and see what she has to say on the subject.
