| Squinty Teary Eyes? Help. This afternoon, Marly seems like he can't open his eyes, he is squinting a lot and they are teary. Could it just be him sleepy? My boyfriend noticed it as soon as he saw him. Any ideas? |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | I'd bring him in -- w/ some of the wind here in AZ lately, he could have a piece of a cactus needle in his eye, or was maybe scratched by something. If it's a corneal scracth, those are very painful and the vet will give you some ointment/meds.

| My tiny poodle who loves to dig gets that way when she has dirt in her eyes. I gently pull the skin down and look at the eyeball, I also check the top. If I find dirt I rinse it out with water. She of course does not appreciate my efforts, and is quick to go back to digging to get more dirt in.

| Apple Cider Vinegar For all those who have pups with runny eyes, add organic apple cider vinegar to the drinking water. You can also add it to their food. I have 5 dogs and they really like it. Don't use the cheap stuff from the grocery store it has to be organic. It cuts those tears way down and the stinky skin under the eyes where the tears build up, that's bacteria and the vinegar takes care of that too. I would start it rite away, while he's on antibiotic. | I would also have the vet check for dry eye if there is a problem with eyes.

| Acv I use a large bowl, holds about a gallon of water and I put 2 tablespoons. For a cup of water I would use at least 1ml ACV . It needs to be changed daily. Some grocery stores carry it, but I have never been to a health food store that doesn't have it. I have a ShihTzu foster and he has terrible eyes so I put a 1/4 of a tea spoon in his pumpkin at bed time and this is day 4 of that. This A.M. his eyes were about 80% better and the little nutbucket loves it. Tonight I forgot to put it in the pumpkin and he just stood there looking at me like Hollo did you forget something. Dry eye is often caused by allergies and the ducts get plugged by the boogs. When the plug comes out the eyes begin to tear like crazy. So one minute they are dry and the next they will not stop running. Often when the plug comes out you will notice a strong odor, that's bacteria same as what grows on the skin under the eye where the boogs lay on the skin. The ACV helps with all of it. Some times it takes a couple of weeks some times you will notice a difference rite away. |
