| My Sick Little Mitsy. Please Help! My yorkie.. the love of my life. was perfect 5 days ago. her normal self. 4 days ago she kept me up all night with a cough. the vet called it a collapsing trachea. we got antibiotics and a pill to help her relax. she only took 1/4 of the pill and her cough was completely gone. the next day she was still tired. not wanting to walk. and hid in a strange place. she wouldnt eat. we took her back into the vet and they gave her more antibiotics and fluids. they didnt seem to help at all. she was still vomiting. not moving much. just sleeping. and refused any food. she continued hiding in strange places when she could and wasnt herself! it has been the hardest days of my life. for the past two days she has been going to the vet all day. and has gotten an iv. which gives her fluids and nutrients because of the weight she has lost in just 4 days. they dont know what is wrong. they suspect pancreatitis or a few other options. does anyone else have a similar problem! i need help.. i cannot lose her... she means everything to me! please any advice. anything! thank you so much. -Mariel and Mitsy |

| Did her cough sound like any of these on this thread? http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/yor...d-trachea.html What bloodwork have they done? Have the tested for liver shunt?

| the vet said it was the collapsing trachea. but that has stopped since the first day. but yes she has gotten blood work done everyday and her liver enzymes are high and today they said she is yellow colored. she did mention the liver shunt. but seemed to dismiss that problem today. it so hard not knowing what is it! she is at the vet currently on an iv and will stay there overnight also.. |

| Why did the vet dismiss the liver shunt? Do you have the bloodwork results? If not, can you call and get them to post here? Did they do a BAT (bile acids test) test? If not, please insist they do one and post those results here, too. There are some very knowledgable people here on YT and I'm hoping one will see this thread soon who will be able to help you more. In the meantime, please post those test results.

Donating YT 30K Club Member | I am so sorry your little Mitsy is so sick. I would get her to a specialist, like an internest. Usually they are at 24 hour animal hospitals or go to a University teaching animal clinic. Sounds like your vet isn't sure what it is and you don't want to wait to find out. Keep us posted please and I will keep her in my prayers.

| With the high enzymes and jaundice, it almost has to be a liver problem. She needs to see a veterinary internist today. The vet can't rule out liver shunt without a bile acids test.

| The specialist is a great idea. I agree with Ellie May, that this sounds Liver related. Try not to freak out, you have to be strong for your baby. IF she has a Liver Shunt, or MVD or Liver Disease, please know this isn't a death sentence, with proper treatment, diet and supplements she can live a happy life We are here for you, and may of us have Liver Issue Babies (including me ) Just be sure to post what the Specialist has to say, and any more teset results. Bring a pad and pen with you to write it all down |

| Will keep Misty in my thoughts and prayer's. I hope the new vet can determine what's wrong before it's too late. Your right to be so nervous I would be also. Hugs to both of you, poor baby, if they could only talk. |
