| My baby Dante having liver and sugar issues. Help!!! Thank God I found a board with other folks who love their yorkies the way I love mine! Please read our situation and let me know if you have any advice or insite. Dante is a 3 1/2 year old highly energetic, normally healthy yorkie. Three days ago: he began to act lethargic, not interested in eating, not even up to following me around the house. Two days ago: vomitted twice in the morning, began peeing inside (uncommon), would only eat boiled chicken fed by hand. Normal BM's. Yesterday: took Dante to vet. Pancreatitis showed negative. Liver enzymes extremely high (ALKP 502, ALT 679). Glucose extremely low (39mg/dL). The vet gave him some fluids, an anti-nausea med, an antibiotic to be started last night, and some Nutri-Cal (which he digested a little bit of)...and sent us home. Last night: emergency trip to vet as Dante was completely unresponsive. Glucose DID NOT EVEN MEASURE! They immediately gave him an iv of fluids and glucose along with a bag of antibiotic. This morning: vet called to say Dante had made it through the night and his glucose was back up to 93 mg/dL. He is still not eating AT ALL on his own. I am meeting with the vet at three to discuss his condition. She is still not giving a diagnosis. I am worried if I bring him home again and he is not eating, that his blood sugar will bottom out once more and he will start to go into a coma again. What is going on with my baby? Please help! Donating YT 30K Club Member | I am so sorry Dante is sick. At 3 1/2 you would think hypoglycemia wouldn't be a problem. Has he been tested for Liver shunt? I hope the vet can give you some answers today. I will keep him in my prayers. Please keep us posted.

Honestly, I'd see if you could get this baby to an Internist asap.

Chemistry Panels & Tests for Pets Symptoms and Diagnosis of Liver Disorders in Dogs also join this group as they are sharp on liver values on blood work and maybe they can shed some light Liver_Shunt_And_MVD_Support@yahoogroups.com have they checked the urine to see what is going on with glucose ? | |

| Met with a referred vet this morning. It looks like my baby is going into liver failure. I am absolutely devastated. Their best guess is that he came in contact with some kind of toxin, although we may never know. His liver is shutting down...and at this point they are not sure it can repair itself. If he is not better by tomorrow morning, we may have to make some hard decisions. Again, I'm devastated. |

| Yes...actually an animal hospital with five vets, each specializing in different areas. It looks like his little liver is just not repairing itself. His platelets are extremely low which is the cause of the bloody discharge from his nose. We are waiting on more bloodwork this afternoon, but his numbers continue to rise and rise...even with all the medications. The vet did mention a possible blood transfusion, but that would just be to try and buy the little guy more time and see if his liver will do a turnaround. |
