| Pook is in unexplained pain (LONG) I woke up this morning and Pook was acting strange. She always gets in my bed after my husband leaves for work. This morning, instead of just getting in my bed, being her loving, hyper self, she was acting weird. She couldnt seem to get comfortable.I finally got her up and brought her in to the living room. She started walking backwards, kinda like she was backing away from me(She is usually attached to me,so this was weird),she would not look at me,and wouldnt acknowledge me when I called her,and kept whining. She had a normal bowel movement and urinated last night. Wouldnt eat or dink water today at all. I called the vet and took her to get checked out.The vet checked her out and said she cleaned out her anal glans, and gave me anti inflamatory medication, because the vet said one seemed a little painful. She had a bowel movement before I left the vets office. On the way home, she was more pert and actually climbed up in my lap. Got her home, she got on the couch and no sooner than we sat down, she on pillows and not moving and she cried out LOUDLY several times. I took her back to the vet.She checked her again.I along with the vet thought it may be her stomach or her left leg bothering her(she had surgery before for Leggs Perthes about 2 years ago). Well, just now,I had to hand feed her to get her to eat,and when I went to pick her up to help her off the couch, she cried out again and when I touch her neck, head area, she cries out more.Theres nothing thats happened to her (accident, fall, injury) that I know of,and as Ive said,Im with her all the time.Anyone have any idea what could be wrong with her? |

| I wish I could help, but have no idea what could be wrong, but I think I would get a second opinion. Sounds like she is definitely in pain. Poor little baby. I would have her checked out by another vet just to see what they say.

| OMG..this sounds almost exactly what my little Ryle has been doing all day . He has been lying around way more than usual and I knew something was wrong. He also would just wimper from a dead sleep. He is so lifeless. DH just took him to vet so hopefully we will be ok. I am sorry to hear about your little one, don't you just hate it when you know something is wrong and they can't tell you..I hope your baby gets better very soon. |

| I keep seeing things about Atlanto-Axial Luxation. Soemthing to do with the bones in the neck. God,I hope she doesnt need surgery.I cant afford it right now.Im going to not touch her any more than absolutely necessary and call the vet in the morning about this seemingly neck/head pain. |

| For those trying to help with Pook-This morning she is acting like herself for the most part.Still not real active, but more alert and not acting like she's in pain.Just letting her take it easy and have her way.I went ahead and gave her the rimadyl the vet prescribed,.Hoping it was just a strained muscle, but Im going to keep an eye on her to make sure. Thanks for all your concern and help. |

| Well,Pook has been back to her snipey self! I was going to take her back to vet today, but she was doing so good this morning,I figured I'd wait to see how she did. She's back to griping at us,lovey dovey, and she's moving her head around like normal.-? I guess it was just a strained muscle. She's back! Thanks again for the well wishes. |

| Oh I am so glad she is feeling well. Just remember that pain meds can mask medical conditions so if you take her to the vet to be checked for the AAI..AltanoAxial Instiability Please inform the doc you have given pain meds. Also pain meds will make her feel well enough to run around and she can injure herself more. This coming from a AAI/AAS mom. My little guy Babybear is a AAI/AAS survivor. you can read his story on Dogster Watch Your Step Here Please keep us update on how Pook is doing thanks.
