Cry Help! =[

Okay, I recently got a boy yorkie, I've had him for a few weeks now. I haven't taken him to the vet yet. The yorkie was abandoned before I got him, so I'm not sure of his history.

I took him to the groomers for the first time today.
Since he's been home, he's been acting strange.
He hasn't really barked, and hasn't gotten excited like he usually does.
And he licks his privacy areas like CRAZY. NON STOP since he's been home pretty much.
His body feels really warm- and sometimes he'll shake.
he's just not acting the same.
He curls up in a little ball and just lays there. It really worries me.
He doesn't even move when I get out of bed now.
He acts like he doesn't even want to walk really, and he doesn't want to
play or anyhing- it's not normal.

I'm not sure what to do- maybe it scared him?
What should I do?

Hmm maybe the groomer express his glands, but I will take your little one to the vet, just to be safe. Hugs

Please just watch him and take him to your vet. You can feel at times if something is not right.

I haven't taken him to the vet before, I'm so scared something might have happened. I wish I knew what was wrong, maybe I'm over exaggerating... but he won't stop licking himself.

He acts like he wants to be left alone, but he never wants to be alone.

Another thing it could be is just the bareness.. kind of like when a boy gets his head shaved and then continually rubs his had on his head because he likes the way it feels... I don't know. I would watch him and if in doubt, take him to the vet. Or why not call the groomer and ask if she/he did express the anal gland

I don't think so, that is somenthing that some groomers do, I groom my girls myself, since I had such a horrible experience with Phoebe( my first yorkie), just keep the eye on your little one, give him lots of love and attention

ps. tomorrow call the groomer and ask her,if anything rare happens etc

You have had your new boy for a few weeks and have not had him to the vet yet? Even when you are unsure about his health history because he was abandoned? I don't want to sound too pushy here but I think the vet should have come BEFORE the groomers.

Call first thing in the morning and get that little boy in for a check up and get some shots started. If you have no record of puppy shots, you will have to start from scratch. Let the vet know about your concerns since the grooming appointment. It may just be that he is very tired from the experience and he may be licking more because of nervousness, encountering a female at the groomers, or even because they cut hair there and it feels different to him. It could even be that they shaved too close and he has a sore spot. But the vet checkup and shots are of more importance right now. Get thee to a vet!

I know it's important.
But I haven't taken him because he's acted perfectly fine up until now except eating habits.
But today.. I just don't know.
I'm going to call a vet tomorrow I suppose.
I'm 16, the dog is my responsibility, and I don't know everything about them.

Default Hair cut

He should go to the vet as soon as possible. Some times if a dog has never had a hair cut it feels strange to them, and sometimes they just get embarrassed about it. When ever you pick him up from the groomer try telling him how handsome he looks and how much you love his new hair cut. But he should see the vet to make sure this is the problem.

He's like licking all over, it's really weird. and I'll look at him and then he'll stare at me.. then he'll like hide his face, and go back to likeing and kinda biting his leg, then he was licking his foot.
He keeps looking at me weird though.
And he's still licking his privacy areas like crazy! This has been going on all night.
I was thinking it might be itching? but I don't know.
and he keeps sniffing himself and things. then he'll hide his nose.
Once he's still, he'll smack,or lick just like he's trying to get my saliva in his mouth or something? Idk..

I'm so worried- it's so unusual. Tomorrows sunday- I doubt a vet will be open.

He could be itching because when they groom your dog they bath them then trim them. When you go get a hair cut , the first thing you want to do is take a shower to wash off all the itchy cut hair that sticks to your skin. Dogs often feel the same way. Also some times they spray them with dog perfume and some dogs don't like it and some are allergic to it. Try bathing him to get rid of the smell and the loose itchy hair and see how he acts then.

You mentioned his eating habits. What about them. Is he not eating right now? I don't know but maybe giving him a bath again might help. Maybe to wash away whatever the groomer put on him? That is probably what I would try and do. But yup, the pup has to go to the vet hun. How old is the pup?

It is good that you re taking responsibility for him but your folks need to take the responsibility for the vet trip. Whenever we get a new pet, it is important to take them to the vet within the first few days to make sure they don't have any diseases or conditions that need treating. This needs to be done on all pups, regardless of how they are acting. Consider it like a well baby check up. Since they can't talk, all medical conditions are not readily apparent and make a vet check up more important. They also need to have the proper vaccines. Since you don't know anything about his history and said he was abandoned, I am guessing you have no history of his shots either. So, for the sake of the pup, and the legal requirements too, you need to have the vaccines started.

I haven't been on all day today, but since it was Sunday, you probably did not get to the vet. So, just ask your folks to make an appointment when they open tomorrow. Let them know how important it is to the safety of your pup.

I would not worry too much about all that licking. It is probably just from the haircut and the grooming products they used on him that he is probably not used to. It could even be that they did not rinse him well enough. I would probably try giving him a thorough rinsing with luke warm water. See if that helps. Good luck!
