| I'm getting him neutered! Gizmo is 6 months old and he will be getting neutered on July 22nd. Is there anything I need to know to do after I bring him home? I have the rest of the week off and the weekend to keep an eye on him......I'm just a little worried!

| I know how nervous that can make you, but you are making the right decision for him. Is he having any teeth removed at the same time? If so, you might want to have some soft food available. Be prepared for a lot of cuddling and sleeping. I know it's tough, but you have to love on him lots! Make sure that if the vet offers pain meds for the first night, that you get them. Gizmo was sore the first night, but back to his normal self the next day. Luckily he didn't lick or bother the stitches, but some will. I had newborn onesies to put on him if he started licking, but luckily he didn't need to wear them. (Thanks Wylie's Mom!). They just seemed like they would be much more comfortable than those big collars. Kandi will be spayed next month as well. It was supposed to be this month, but she decided to go into heat. There's also a sticky somewhere that lists all of the tests you need to ask for ahead of time and what to make sure the vet does the right things for these little guys. Make sure to check that out.

| I second the onesies suggestion! My little guy was scared to death of the elizabethan collar to the point where it was counter productive. The onsies where a huge help for me since they should prevent them from licking the incision unless their horribly persistant and they are not as restrictive or scary. Depending on how big your dog is you may want to double check what size you really need. I had assumed my Winston would fit in the newborn size but at 11 inches long from neck to tail they were too small length wise and I had to make an extra trip to get larger ones. |

| Thanks for the suggestions, I never even thought about the onesies! Did you need to cut holes out for them to go potty?

| I didn't cut any holes in mine, although I know some do. Winston doesn't use potty pads (and since I had mine with the snaps on his back and not under his belly) so I just unsnapped it pulled it up towards his arms and then re-snaped one of the snaps to keep the flap from dragging on the ground when we go out. One of the nice things I found what that he seemed to associate the onesie with not being able to lick, so even if I didn't have it snapped in the back to prevent him he still stayed away from it. |

| This is the sticky I told you about. It's at the top of the "Health and diet" forum. It has great information. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/yor...-protocol.html
